Nearly done the basic colours. Just have to finish and attach the twin linked guns mounted underneath, canopies and the free hand. I was thinking of putting freehand writing on the inside of the forward pieces and beside the lower canopy. Anybody got any suggestions or ideas/links? Just unsure what I should attempt.

Been watching your progress with this one Jamie, very interesting.
Love the colour scheme.
Don't really know what to suggest as far as freehand for it though, depends how the army plays as to whether it steers to a particular Craftworld or not. If it's something totally different then you may need to come up with something unique, a hard ask.

I know what you mean Tony. I was thinking about being some what original, which is difficult. I was thinking about using a similar scheme on my guardians, vyper bike, harlequins and my wraithguard. The aspects warriors I was going to leave the classical colours. Just have to think up some type of design that matches the colour scheme.

That looks very cool mate, Good job. The transfer sheet has section of writing on it, maybee you could use that as a basis for a text pattern.

I think spirals and that sort of decorative symbolism would work well on this piece, but I'm sure whatever you decide on it will look fantastic. I have little skill in blending and you seem to have it in spades!

I think you also need to paint the canopy frame lines on the model to match the hull colour schemes. It makes a big difference towards making the model look like a scaled down real vehicle and less like a toy.
I'd paint the canopy frames black and then paint the top surfaces the same colours as the hull.

I think your right and it wouldnt really take much to do. I am starting to think with the freehand that less is more. I might just go with small eldar runes and some smaller decorative vines on parts of the miniatures.

Very nice!
Got pics of the rest of the army?
Also, is this going to be a playable or display army?

Its not a display army. I plan on using it next year, hopefully at a couple of touranments.

I will try and get a photo of what have done so far sometime soon.

very beautiful work mate, i have tried blending recently on a monolith of mine, but yours is far saperior. very smooth finish, blending is subtle but still strong enough to show well. maybe with the runes try a more technological look, right now it seems very metalic and sleek and i think a few sharp eldar looking runes could look really good, or if you felt like testing yourself, try some runes on the capopy, like visual projection data. like in fighter jets and stuff how they have all the battle stats viewed through the canopy.
just food for thought mate, but id love to see the rest of your army, i think this is the best eldar colour scheme im yet to see, the super bright eldar isnt my thing.
Great work!

I'd agree with everyone else's comments.
The basic hull paint job is excellent and covering it in complex symbols would risk spoiling it.
I'd consider some small runes, maybe crew names near their positions, maybe some kill markings, and maybe the army badge on one panel.
Other than that less is definately more.

The aspect warriors are done in there more tradtional colours but I plan on using this colour scheme on my :
wraithguard (only done one so far)
harlequins
vyper bike
and my guardians
I have finished my fire dragons, dire avengers, scouts and farseer with warlocks. I am still working on my unit of banshees. This is the first of 6.

Nice stuff Arithon, love your work.
I'm currently painting up a wave serpent... I wouldn't exactly call it 'fun'... the wide, curved surfaces are tough to get right. This is why I appreciate this piece more than the foot sloggers, eldar tanks are tough to make look good, but you've achieved it so far.
Cheers,

So the Firedragons you plan to use for games are the ones that were you Golden Demon placing entry? haha

If so, that is awesome!

Just a suggestion.
Why not use a straight line of runes, each rune roughly the physical size of the canopies, to stretch from the 2nd quadrant on the right fin straight over the whole machine to the other side, done in basic black, with the same for the small turret too.
hope you understand what I mean.
As I said, just a suggestion.
Arithon
Dec 7 2007, 01:19 PM
Thanks Tony, I was thinking about doing something similar just smaller down both inside edges of the fins. Then just a smaller freehand vines on the front of the fins? Then a larger icon beisde the driver. I will post some drawings of ideas tonight.
Very sharp, Dude. The banshee is easily one of the best of seen. Loved to see more.
Re the runes/markings, I have to reserve comment or suggestion until I saw different angles. It looks like it is painted NMM style but it could be the shine from the flash. Can we get some other photos?
I think NMM needs to be treated in completely different way to flat colours to get the benefit of the runes otherwise the impact can be lost.

Now to the freehand, I was thinking Beil-Tan. These are a couple of ideas at the moment (please excuse the shocking freehand):

So the middle idea suits the Beil-Tan scheme?
Rojo
Dec 8 2007, 12:10 AM
Yeah, I'd say that the middle scheme would suit Biel-Tan, however I think the last one would go really well on your Grav Tank, it wouldn't be too much, where I think the middle one could be a little overpowering if not done right. Lovely Banshee by the way, you have really nice, soft tones.

Love you work, Excellent stuff.
I agree with Rojo, the colour of the Grav is lovely and I think it would be spoil with too much stuff on it. But looking at your standard I'm sure it will look outstanding.

As promised what I have done more recently. Not the best photo (actually terrible oh well) but you get the idea.
3rd from the left. But without the crennelated (I think thats the word?) line. The colour is still the hard part as you have used the purple on the gems. Perhaps a shaded white/bone colour?
The rest of the army looks sweet by the way.
Arithon
Dec 8 2007, 09:32 AM
I was thinking of dark purple through to a bone colour as well. Similar to the pilots.

I'll vote for the middle design, I reckon you'd be able to pull it off.

Eldar Falcon Grav Tank- "The Wraith"
Finally finished I went with the one on the left in the end. I tried to do the vines but it just didnt look right. So I went for a more barbed approached in small areas. Thanks everybody for your feedback in this project. Comments and feedback welcome.

Dec 9 2007, 07:43 PM
That looks perfect - subtle enough to fit in with the other eldar models in your army, but with enough intricacy to break up the panels.
I was about to suggest a much more minimalist version of the vines and thorns, but the runes look great. I'm taking notes for my own eldar...

What colours have you used for the runes? It looks like a purple base (mainly visible on the side wings), blended up to bone.
Arithon
Dec 9 2007, 09:19 PM
The colours for the free hand in order was an outline using VMC brown/black, then bleached bone. I then washed the darker sections with a mixture of bleached bone and liche purple. I finally used VMC silver grey on the edges.

@ Fluffy05
The base is only a cut up 40k building. So far one building has done the whole army. The rest is just sand, attached with PVA glue. I tend to dry brush the area a light colour, the building fotress grey and sand bleached bone. Then I wash it with a dark colour, I find VMC brown/ black mixed with matte medium works really well. The green plant material is a moss that I found at a craft store years ago. I havent seen it since though, so I cant help you with that one.
Thanks for the comments guys. I have put together the guardians and the harlequins so not much left to do now. My next army will be grey knights and sisters of battle. Total opposite to what I am doing now, more dirty and metallics.
