Hi All,

I have been converted to the greater good and have sorted out my list to 1500pts.

The concept behind the army is a Third Sphere army surging outwards recapturing the worlds and outposts that were lost during the Damocles Crusade. This will be lead by Commander Shadowstorm (One of Shadowsun's lost sisters) and as a newly replenished army will have all the neat toys plus Auxiliaries.
I really like the colour scheme for Shadowsun so the entire army will be done as such.

Here is the first finished tester that I am finally happy with.
I purchased a box of GW jungle plants back when the Lustria campaign was on, so now is a good opportunity to use them.

LOL

Took me a while... I wonder if Tau ever fielded IG Sentinels? :/

I like the model, makes me want to start a Tau force, which is bad... I don't have any money sad.gif
Lord Wombalot
That is a great scheme mate.

Nice one.

Almost finished my first test Kroot. Good fun to paint.
Even sculpted my first feather.
He still has a few bits i need to finish up - Base, woodgrain on the gunstock, etc

I am not happy with the 'gore/sand' on the blades, probably scrape it off and use greenstuff instead

Looking good Dave, looking good smile.gif
White's a hard colour to paint, so will always earn a few extra votes. I actually really like the kroot you've done up, I think it's far superior to any model you have in your eldar so far, it's nice to see you raising the bar smile.gif!

Thanks Charlie, It shows what a difference passion for what you are doing makes...
Proximity
And how long have you felt passion for half naked bird men, dare I ask?! I bet it's the lack of feathers that gets you going.. I knew it from the moment I saw you lustfully staring into my freezer the other week at the frozen chicken in there.

What's your target unveiling tournament?
damianlz
I think it looks f$@king fantastic! I especialy adore the bases and love the colour clash!

I guess it would be the Auckland GT, but who knows if that is on again this year....
luke james
you, sir are a skilled painted, personaly i'm not a big fan of white as it reminds me of stormtroopers (who can't hit the bare side of a barn from 10 paces) but it still has it's merits
Face
Thanks all for the great feedback.

@ Luke - Nt sure I want my Tau to look like Temuera Morrision!
Proximity
Cook me some eggs kroot...
Cook your own f***ing eggs Shas'O Heke!
Bishop
And what the hell is wrong with Tau looking like Temuera, eh Boba?

Looking good daveo, basing is interesting, a path I havent seen anyone go down yet. Its definitely gonna turn heads biggrin.gif
Bishop
As much as I think you have way too much time on your hands mate...shiny plastic plant bases are going to be a biatch to transport and he still looks like he's hunting pigs.

Charlie - Shas'O Heke is GOLD...even if "DOCTOR ROPATA" made me snort solo up my nose (not something to try at home kids). biggrin.gif

Cheers

Ooooooooooo Dave......... Me likey..........
Grendel
they look really nice Dave. i just think the plastic plant looks out of place on the nice painted model.

for me it would need to be painted or inked or something to make it look less plastic.

look forward to seeing the rest as i am trying to get my tau finished smile.gif

AL
Hagen
Dave,

Looking nice. I agree with Al's comments re the plastic plants, but also the earlier comment from Duke about the white armour looking a bit out of place with the base.

Perhaps some green armour plates/camo to tie the two together?

Cheers
Hagen
Face
@Grendal + Hagen - Hrmm, I am not sure how to rectify.
Is your issue with the Fire Warrior, Kroot or both??

My thinking was a clash btwn the clean white, high tech versus the mud and jungle. Sorta Fish out of water - no idea how to fight in the jungle, but sure the greater good will prevail. (*cough*America*cough*)

I could see how the kroot could use a bit of camo. What would you suggest and where??

Dave,

Even America uses camo... smile.gif

My comment is just regarding the clash between the FW scheme and the base, although the plant on the Kroot base could really use some ink too to give it depth (and stop it looking like, well, a plastic aquarium plant)

Cheers

Hagen - Agree on the three leaf plant on the kroot base, the way the light catches it makes it look really plastic and fake. I will ink it as you suggest. The other two types(palm frond and the 'pin' plants) i kinda like the way they are - bright and cheerful.

Al suggested the inking... I agreed with him. My suggestion was the adding of green somewher to your Fire Warrior to tie it in. Get with the program Dave! biggrin.gif

I think you should ink the palm frond... at least try it first.

Haha, Connex in a devilfish!

Great scheme and execution by the way. These guys look awesome. How long does each firewarrior and kroot take you?
Face
Thanks.
I doubt even the Tau empire could sort out public transport in Auckland. dry.gif

The Kroot is not so bad, i find the striations on the flesh easier than normal muscle blending.
The white on the Tau takes far to long, it requires so many layers.

I am experimenting with a few other ways to speeding it up.
If anyone has any suggestions it would be a help!

luke james
where did you learn to magatise like that? but where do you get those magnets anyway, my local GW didn't know
Uber_Kroot
That Devilfish interior is dedication to the hobby (althought some Shas'la is goign to get in trouble for leavign his bonding knife lying around!!) well done!

Dave,

I'd look at using plasticard sheets to cover where you have been GS'ing large areas - would be a neater finish (e.g. underneath the gun racks).

Who in their right mind would live in Auckland paint white eh? wink.gif smile.gif

You are slowing down Old Man.
It took you 3 hours....

Anyway sir, to answer your query -
If you would direct your attention to the last pic, I have used plasicard to cover neg space where the engines attach.
But i take your point.
Also the left panel is to be glued on, the putty will be concealed.

Painting white is a challenge.

It's allright Hagen, I get sent all the emo-pm's about cutting his wrists with his white paintbrush, im not sure he's in his right mind!

Thanks all for the great feedback.
If anyone has any further suggestions to make the fish (or the army) better it would be appreciated.

So the Dfish is 95% done, been working on it listening to the cricket.
Just the Base and Decoy Launchers left to do.

That is a dead clean paintjob. I'm seriously impressed, anyone who can get white that smooth over a tank with all the lining done in a dark colour gets points from me biggrin.gif . Very impressive, buddy and I look forward to more.
Lord Wombalot
Well, put simply, that Devilfish is fantastic.

The FANTASTIC Devilfish.

Love the Fire-warrior and Kroot schemes and the bases too.

Yep.

Wow.

Unfortunately I have no suggestions for speeding up painting white.

Dang.

FAIL.

damianlz
dude..freking fantastic I am SOO jealouse of your colouring right now, and the lining is just woah
Kargan DaemonClaw
The guns on the devilfish look like they are taken from another brown painted model and stuck on this nice white one. I think either you need to add more brown to the devilfish or more white to the weapons so they tie together.

White looks good. I'd be looking to get the white out of a spray can.

Maybe matt white undercoat to show all the assembly imperfections and joints that need patching. Then a top coat of gloss white automotive spray. Then a coat of testors dull coat and then some black lining ink pens.
Hagen
Dave,

One thing you may not have considered... actually, highly likely you didn't smile.gif... when you are playing at a tournament you better ensure your hands/fingers are always clean and especially not covered in mince pie/chocolate/coca-cola residue.

Don't want hands and fingers messin' the white paintjob!

Cheers
Hagen
Face
Thanks guys,

@ Lord Wombalot - Fail? Naw its okay, i have sorted the white out okay
IPB Image

Some guys at ATT and WIP asked how the white is done, so if it helps;
QUOTE
- Spray Skull White - 2x (this dfish used half a can...)
- 2 Coats of Morrow White (P3 Paint - think of it as a GW Foundation White - If they made one.)
mixed with 50/50 Floor Polish + H20
- 2 Coats of Skull White mixed with 50/50 Floor Polish + H20
- Codex Grey in armour recesses.
- Touchups w. Morrow.
- Varnish

It is labour intensive but layers smoothly and really holds well.

@ Kargan - Thanks for the input.
Where do you get Testors' Dullcote in Wellington?

Not sure i am sold on the brown point you made.
Primary = White, Secondary = Black, Accent = Tau Brown (vomit)

I rekon the reason the brown is an issue on the dfish is the amount of white present.
The Brown is for weapon casings, symbols and markings, so i nt sure how i would add more to the dfish
The test fire warrior has more brown as the pulse rifle is large proportionally to the white areas. So it works.

Thoughts anyone?

It occurs to me (highly likely it hasn't occured to you) you have just described everything that you own.
Just wait until Seb starts walking.....

I got Testors Dull coat from Mac's tracks in Johnsonville.

I agree that it's the large amount of brown on the weapon and no significant amount anywhere else that makes it look like the weapons are from another model.

Painting the weapons on a foot model the contrast colour is normal. painting them in a contrast colour on a vehicle looks odd. If you want to tie them in I think you need more brown accents or reduce the amount of brown on the weapons to just accents on them.

BTW it looks very attack of the clones especially with the doors down.
blood_god
yea have fun with that white by the way...

looks awesome. i think the painting comp at GT is shaping up to be VERY interesting....

keep it up!
infermofperpus
Awesome. Anyone who is mad enough to paint a white army gets my respect.
