Has anyone got any tips as to how to make tall bamboo trees? Or where to buy them? I just finished watching Forbidden Kingdom and really really want to make a nice Chinese landscape/terrain

Places like Lowes, Lincraft, or House or $2 shops?

I think you can get like 1m strips of thin bamboo kinda stuff, but i maybe wrong.

Brilliant, might go hunting around tomorrow. The leaves might be a problem but I'm sure there'd be plenty of $2 shops with something I need.

The other option is to sculpt rings around plastic rod :s

I can't imagine the leaves will be too hard, can't you just use a similar method to home-made palm leaves?

You could reverse the rings... get plastic rod and cut grooves into it, and paint these darker later on. From a distance, it'd look the same.

What's Forbidden Kingdom like? Any good?

It's awesome Really fun to watch... especially if you liked Monkey (the old Japanese show). It's tone is kind of like the old TMNT movies too... definitely a "PG" movie, but it was just so fun to watch. And, the Kung Fu is pretty damn good as well... as you'd expect for a movie with Jet Li and Jackie Chan. The dialogue is a bit silly though.

But yeah, awesome landscapes... would be great to make replicas of some of the terrain.

The guy over at necrotales.com has a tutorial on making bamboo for basing. Not sure if it's big enough for you.

Alternatively, you can buy some "lucky bamboo" and kill it then glue it on...

But that would make me sad

I think those trees are too big, and too alive, for me to use. It's okay *hug*

BUT that Necrotales thing was damn good! Making whole trees would be an effort though! I'll see how I go with this...

you could use sushi mats or bamboo blinds (may give you too many though. could do a workshop for your club)

I was thinking of making a forest. That's another great idea which I will have to investigate.

Oh - I just had another thought - you could do a whole village & bamboo grove with a couple of sushi mats!!!

ah sushi mats... they look about the right size too. I will have to investigate! Any idea where i could find one. Got some on eBay but I'd rather see it first
