Well I'm running 40k Apocalypse at Cancon. My blurb was finalised and sent in to the committee, and I'm in the process of writing the tournament pack.

Due to other commitments I can't get to MOAB Apoc in Oct 2008, but I am in contact with the TO and will be taking all of the lessons learnt there on board.

One of the plans is to hold a few practice games using my draft tournament rules. These will be held about once a month, in Canberra, at my house: a free venue. Who is keen for Cancon, and who is keen for some prep games?
Lonestar
As MOAB will be my 3rd Apoc tournament run with the system I have developed, try and keep the missions relatively simple because the armies arnt, they are huge and powerful and things can go arie quicker then a warhound going apocaliptic!

Good luck, play test your missions and restrictions fully, try and think of loop holes players will try and exployt, but keep it fun.

Now I have to deside if I am going to play 40k and Apoc.......

I'll post the flyer soon.

At your house? really? ...because I know of a free monthly gaming club that is within walking distance of your house and that also has a bar and does meals wink.gif

And I will be at it: As soon as there is a meeting that doesn't co-incide with a trip away! Sept is now a scrub - away in Sydney.

The cancon booklet is now out - they must not have had enough room for the whole flyer.

Alrighty - I've just had my first contact from an interested player. A possible 12,000 point three person Eldar team full of Forgeworldy Mega titan goodness.

This Saturday sees the practice game under the proposed setup rules.

I should have the players pack for release in about a fortnight.

Good points:
1 - Imperial Armour books are all in.
2 - Model security - your risk. Pickup units and placing substitute pieces of paper is a suggested method for overnight games. I sure wouldn't leave my £895.00 ($2,287.68 AUD) Tau manta lying on the table... (Not that I own one, simply making a point)
3- Book in confidence: Cancon organisers have confirmed that it will go ahead with any amount of booked players.

Cancon 2009 Apocalypse General's Pack

Apocalypse Cancon will be run over all three days of the convention. Generals are advised that lateness will have in-game consequences.

Lists: All list will be of 4,000 points. Lists must be neatly constructed and entirely readable. Sources for lists include: The current 40K codex, Apocalypse rulebook, Apocalypse reloaded rulebook, White Dwarf magazine and the Forgeworld books.

Play Type: There will be two types of play. Default & Teams.

Single will be played between single generals each controlling 4,000 points. Each game has one day to complete the game.

Teams will be played between groups of generals each controlling 4,000 points each. Teams games will be organised if requested. Single play is the default: Team play will only be organised if a suitable opposing team can be found.

If you partake in a team game, there will be a single game played for as long as it takes within the context of the three days. Any spare time will be divided into pickup games.

Competitions:

There will be three group competitions, Theme, Painting and Sportsmanship. Each player will fill out the extra piece of paper that nominates who you believe are the top three in each category.

Generalship will be decided by results and the discretion of the Tournament organiser.

The Bell of lost souls super heavy stat sheets are awesome, as they are if anything, slightly over priced. But they fit in very well with Apocalypse.

Dude, one day for a 4k game? 2 per day, yes.

They accually play really fast, especialy when things go boom!

But one game a day will be a negative for me. sad.gif

Hahah. I think you would have some pretty quick games smile.gif

Status:

Certificates printer, placeholder printed, tables order with 4 tables worth of terrain. Sponsorship prizes organised. Setup on Friday after work, see everyone Saturday morning, hope there is less than five walkups so I don't have to fiddle too much with tables.

I have one promised walkup and two possibles - Who will show?

Well lonestar was right, and we got through the tournament part pretty quick. 4k games only took half a day, so I adjusted the format on the fly, I didn't break my promises and I put in a whole heap of extra stuff as well.

Layout: First of all we played the tournament. Each round took half a day, and there were three rounds. Six players meant that their were no double up games. Hurrah!

After the final round:

Winner: Tyranids double heirophant and big gribblies.

Tied second/third:
Character heavy IG army
Superheavy Titan army: Warlord, Warhound, Baneblade, two russ.

Tied Fourth/Fifth:
Mixed Tau army
Tank line IG army

Wooden Spoon:
Orks Gargant/ Mixed list.

After everyone had played their three games, I ran a character challenge. Basically I got people to extract the characters and the veteran sargent equivalents from their army list, and threw them on a random patch of ground and told them to get too. The ork player had pulled out from the extra bits by this point, as i thought it would have been right up his alley.

Due to the co-incidence of the ground, the IG ran into the IG, and the Tau met the nids. The tau triumphed over the nids, and the character heavy IG got the mixed lot. The IG weathered the firepower, and then Ibram gaunt himself cut down the last tau to win "Characterhammer."

The last challenge on Saturday was the "Resin Dog" challenge, wherein the big boys came out to play. The mixed IG lad was the son of the Tau player, and they played the "Father - Son challenge". This left the Heirophant guy against a warlord, two warhounds, two baneblades and a gorgon.

The nids split up, and got some real luck when they got a critical on the warhound - It went supercrit and blasted bits off everything in the vicinity. Both sides went down - and the remaining heirophant mopped up the other force. The nids were the resin dogs!

Monday saw a 12k on 12k apoc game - all in brawl. It was the Imperium V the filthy xeno scum. 12k of IG, V 5k nids, 4k tau, 1.5k Necrons and 1.5k Eldar. IG got the first turn, and drove hard, but everyone had learnt a lot more and were using cover much better. The Aliens pushed back well, and managed to pull some good tricks. "Subvert machine" saw the warlord take down his little brother the warhound. A few of our regional players said they had to drive - when we called it the alien menace had triumphed.

Things for next time:
Next time, I think i would lay it out as : Sat: Two Tourney rounds Sunday: Team Apoc game. Monday: Final tourney round and maybe extras after that.

Many thanks to Dee's comics as my sponsor, and thanks to Cancon organisers as everything went smoothly, and thanks to Sui and Meesh who helped with the tables, and thanks to my players for being great!

P.S. I ran a tournament where nobody had marines. OMG!
