Well I have some time now while an experiment is running so I may as well get the group blog post up and running. The basis for this thread is to catalogue the happenings of the WM/H players in Adelaide. With luck the interest drummed up will keep slackers like me painting and gaming regularly

. At least 6 of the local guys have expressed interest in participating irregularly, so here's hoping this thread will not die a lonely death.
My big aim for the next 4 months or so (hopefully in time for ARC WM) is to get a 500 point force painted up. This may not happen quite as quickly as I hope as I am meant to have my PhD finished around the same time. Unfortunately that takes precedence :S
Protectorate and Kreoss has been the choice for this first 500 points and the goal is the following list:
Army: Kreoss Painting
Faction: Protectorate of Menoth
Army Points: 500/500
Victory Points: 21
High Exemplar Kreoss
Fire of Salvation
Devout
Redeemer
Knight Exemplar Seneschal
Vassal of Menoth
Choir of Menoth (6)
Holy Zealots (8)
Monolith Bearer
Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor
It's likely that there are too many 'jacks in this list for it to work well, but with fewer models it should speed up the painting time considerably. Slight changes to the list could see Orin dropped for Rhupert (but this seems a bit pointless with just Zealots in the list) or the Vassal and the Seneschal dropped for Aiyana and Holt.
I played a similarish army on the weekend and it went pretty well, but that is a story for another post.
A blog thread can't start without some pics, so here are a couple of my only 'completed' model so far (which I promptly donated to the prize pool at the Breast Cancer Brawl tournament):

Pink!
Hopefully we will be able to get some pics of the other models donated for the tournament. It was fantastic that every single person who played painted something to donate.
Now, if all goes well one of the other locals will drop by and contribute their thoughts / progress

Cheers.

As posted on the other thread, last week I got done...
QUOTE
Fire of Salvation painted and based, Rhoven and pals assembled, painted and based, Cylena and pals (full unit) based with a few final touches of painting, full unit of Loyalist Trenchers finally painted for Magnus, Dhalia and her pet assembled, Vanguard mostly assembled (thinking I should pin the halberd arm since it's gonna stick out).
And...
QUOTE
Was on the shelf Thursday, and got them then. Not sure if there's any left though, I didn't check on Sunday.
Also, Skarath is finished. Dhalia just needs a few final touches on the paint, and is mostly based (just waiting for some PVA to dry, which will take a while). Saxon finally got assembled while I was waiting for other stuff to dry.
EDIT: Damn, my sealer pooled on Dhalia's face and wrecked it. Rubbed it back, but I'll have to redo the face. Everything else is done though on her, including the base.
Oh, and Dhalia's recovering from the plastic surgery nicely.
I'll see about pics later.

Good to see you have been in here already Sam. I was thinking I might have had to double post
I'm waiting for the pumps to cool down here at uni so here is an idea of where I am at so far with the Menoth:
UndercoatedPreppedAssembledBoughtStill to getHigh Exemplar KreossFire of SalvationDevoutRedeemerKnight Exemplar SeneschalVassal of MenothChoir of Menoth (6)Holy Zealots (8)Monolith BearerOrin Midwinter, Rogue InquisitorThough I do have 1 Zealot undercoated to use as a test model.
The paint scheme I am considering is black robes + red armour. It should be pretty quick to pump out and will look quite different from the other local Menites.
Cheers.

Saxon's done. Based and all.
His scheme mirrors that of my Idrians.
And his foot is on the decapitated head of a green troll.
I've got a couple of days off work, I'll see if I can dig up the camera and grab of a shot of the last couple of weeks work. Might even get another model or two done.

Well, time to get the Skorne up and running I spose.........looking at something like this for a list.....
Faction: Skorne
Army Points: 494/500
Victory Points: 19
Lord Tyrant Hexeris
Rhinodon
Basilisk Krea
Ancestral Guardian
Ancestral Guardian
Cataphract Cetrati (4)
Immortals (6)
Praetorian Swordsmen (8)
Some pics of the Brute done so far, not quite sure but he doesn't look quite right to me. Going for a Praetorian Guard feel with these guys, all purple and gold.....but he looks too purple for me at the moment.

Tatzulworm looks good.
I have lost my camera cable, but once I find it, pics ahoy.
currently have returned to my old witch that I stripped ages ago and re-moddled with a huge base. I starting painting her and the scrappy in NMM style many months ago and it was one the most time consuming and difficult tasks I have ever undertaken. Figured I should actually get it finished soon.

Good work, guys. The pic vs post count is awfully high in here!
Some comments:
@WFG: The Cyclops looks good. I think what seems a little off to you is that there seems to be no real delineation between the cloth and the lacquered armour. You could possibly change the shade of one or the other slightly or maybe pick up a third colour (maybe off white on the robes?) to use. Something cool will probably work best.
@moorg: Man you paint things so quick! My favourite is probably Rhoven's guard with his face uncovered. Dunno if that is Gius or Cassian?
How are you going to use those three by the way? I must admit I can't really see why I would want to make room in any of my lists for them.
As for me, well it has been a horrible, horrible week to be honest. I got to spend about 15 mins putting Khador red base on a Zealot and Midwinter (I am going to paint him like the official scheme I think). And another 20 or so minutes cleaning and assembling Morvahna for my mate to game with tomorrow. That has been about the limit really

Hopefully I'll be able to write up a few battle reports while I am in Hong Kong over the next couple weeks. I really doubt there will be any painting done :S

Well after being mooching around thailand I have gottten back into painting again, I have just finished Drago and am about to start on some units such as graylords and the widowmakers hoperfully I should have them all done by sunday night. I have decided to finish off what I have before I start a new faction. Though at the moment no faction is leaping out at me. Maybe cryx??? what do you think terry?

I know you got out of Skorne a while ago, but you aren't drawn to the different mechanics of Hordes? My suggestion would be to pick up a Hordes faction for a bit of variety. I hear Legion are fun >_>

I managed to sneak in another 2 games with the Menites today for another 2 wins. Hopefully I'll get some batreps up in the next week or so.

I don't paint that quick. I've just got everything down to processes and it's easy to get rolling and stop.
Assembly and priming doesn't take long. Then I apply one colour to whatever models are on my table that need it. Then I apply the next colour. Then the next colour, etc... Then I apply washes. Then if anything needs extra attention, I give it the final touches (highlights, touch ups, effects, blending etc...). The only real trick is just to hammer through the base coats, and to pick schemes that allow you to use the quick process.
Hell, my quick basing is just a process too. Glue a few odds and ends to the base to make irregularities in the surface. Cover the base and things stuck to it with PVA. Cover the PVA with fine sand. Leave to dry over night. Paint the base.... Pretty simple really.
The things stuck to the base are just dried plaster, sprews and flash, foam, small stones, dried up PVA or paint pulled from around the lip of their container, paper, etc... Basically just crap.
Cassian's the dude without the helmet. Well he has the helmet under his arm...
Haven't used them yet, but I will be later today. Anything that creates more Zealots (or Flameguard in a pinch) can't be bad. They look a bit tricky to fit in at 500 points unfortunately. But at higher point games, no problemo.
Also for the blog.... Got the 2 Revengers that I got off Terry a while back finally painted and based.

And anyway, Zealots rebased and paint touched up. Covenant, Paladin twins, pKreoss, both Feoras (though for eFeora it's more like a ring around the base), and Testament (though that was just a mild repaint more than a total rebase), are all rebased to fit my current scheme.

Ignore my horrible photos, I need to figure out this mini photography thing.....

Immortal Dakar close up, mounted on sandy base. Not quite sure if they work, but I like the sand theme for Skorne, after all they are from a great big f$%k off desert!

Group shot of the Immortals, gotta wait until I get another drill bit before I can mount them on their sandy bases.....broke my last one in the Dakar, goddamn 0.5mm bits, snap like spaghetti, especially when you use a power drill.......

New shot of the Brute, now with white pants/sleeves....looking much better!

WIP Rhinodon and Savage.
Also got my Arcuarii undercoated and ready to go, I think I might tackle them next just to see how the scheme works on infantry.

The Cyclops, from what I can see does look a lot better Pat. Good stuff. I notice that you didn't put white on the Acuraii though. He has cloth on his arms at least, doesn't he?
WitchFinderGeneral
Dec 1 2008, 04:42 PM
Nah, the Arcuraii are armoured all over, if you look closely you'll see the little cloth belt that goes around the back and hooks into the groin armour, the Arcus shaft and the banner poles are all white, just went a little heavier on the brown wash over the top. Looks much brighter in real life, poor lighting in the photo
Damn bad news though...just as I start building up a head of steam, my doctor tells me to stop! I've been having some shoulder/neck issues, and the doc wants me to stop hunching over my painting desk.....I'm gonna try some stuff, see if I can't find another area to sit and paint where I'm not f$%king my neck up.
moorg
Dec 3 2008, 02:25 PM
Just paint a little bit at a time Pat. Apply a layer of colour, and walk away. Once your neck's okay, do another colour and walk away again. Unless you were doing some serious wet blending, it'll still be good.
Anyway... Avatar repainted and rebased. Freebooter based.

But... they are black... with some red... like the guys I just started painting... godammit...
Please tell me my colour blindness is playing tricks with me...
moorg
Dec 4 2008, 06:27 PM
Actually, they're red and metallic mostly. With some grey on Amon, and some white on the Choir.
The jacks are mostly just boltgun metal and shining gold with a black wash. The same metallics I've got on everything actually (check the Protectorate stuff on the other pages).
The only actual blacks on the models are lines and washes.
Same scheme I've been using for a while.

Nah, it's not so much a time/duration thing, more the fact that my many years of nerd-dom have led to a hacker hunch like you wouldn't believe....according to the physio it's the root cause of all my shoulder issues, and needs to be straightened out ASAP before I screw my shoulder right up, or make the other one just like it!
Good news though, I've found that the coffee table makes a good place to paint if I slide under it like it's a Stable Table kinda dealio.......only problem is the dirty looks I get from the missus when the wargaming stuff starts to spread across the lounge room......

That and I kinda monopolised the TV when she wanted watch cricket.....
Doombreed
Dec 6 2008, 11:33 AM
Wait... SHE wanted to watch cricket and YOU didn't? What kind of topsy turvy world are you living in?

Anyway I finally snapped some pictures of the test zealot. He was a difficult little bugger to photograph. The colours didn't want to come out like in person.
These two are the best I've got and the colours match up pretty well, the red is lacking a bit of depth though.

Even though I was trying to speed paint, he took me at least 4 hours to get to this stage. Some of that time would have been spent figuring out which colours to use and waiting for washes to dry though.
I'm hoping you guys could give me some feedback on the colour scheme. Does it work? Is it too busy?
Cheers.
