Bloodbrotherdave
Well its the day after the event and im still fairly happy with how thing paned out. Now all my batreps i do follow this same little formuli. Me jabber on about some nonsense, a bit of back story, possibly some actual game reports (unlikely) and then some rambling summary at the end.

So sit back, grab the popcorn and lets go...

So some of you may have seen my little painting diary/modeling thread and i may have said I was going to get some of my Cryx Warmachine figures and turn them into a BB Undead team. Still its not a bad idea, but it got as far as me getting the figures out and on the desk. Had a bit of a second thought as I still like to play WM and I dont like hacking off weapons and such. so i was back to plan A. The Vampires. They were all painted up and just needed some basing. ended up with some grey gravel stuff on them. Forgot to paint the black bases grey first so it came out a tad poop. but nothing i cant fix

So I woke up to my phone beeping, Diesel asking me what time it started or somesuch. so txt him back and crawled into the shower. Made my way there, almost got lost when i had to take some detour. Met up with Kyle at the rego desk and made our way down for the event. Some good numbers, as said up from prev years so that is only a good thing. Met up with my regular gaming buddies, Diesel, Roy, Marcus. Some fellow wswa club regulars Raihan and Kieth, and some others ive met through regular gaming over the years and some new faces. JoeKano got down to business fairly quickly after being pestered by myself and a few others for some NAF dice (mmm nice and yellow) and some other prematch business.

Team - Waverley Nightwings
line up - 4 Vampires (Led by Capt "One man Show" Rengrave)and 7 thralls
4 rerolls. 0FF

Then the call up went for opening round.
The Waverley Nightwings drew up against Troy's Orcs.
Troy had a fairly typical line up of 4 Blitzers, 4 BO, 1 thrower, 3 Linemen and a goblin. but only 2 RR but 3 FF
It was a blinder of a game, Troy was receiving. First block he throws at a Thrall. zap. break armour, 10's for inj. Im getting a little worried, i expect thralls to get smashed, but if he keeps that up im done by half time. Only BH though. he knocks a few more thralls around and starts his play fairly well. My first turn. Open up with a few blocks, first couple are pushes then Thrall Phetts gets a zap on a Blitzer. breaks armour, and double 6 for inj, followed up with another BH. So each of our first knockdowns ended up in the red bin. It helped set the pace of the game, it was a bit brutal but with some good movement by the nimble and strong vamps they were able to penetrate the Orc defense and get the ball loose. That held up the Orcs for most of the first half. Some more brutal and close BB followed and the Nightwings got away with a 1-0 win. It was a good match but as none of my opponenets had played against Vampires before i think the element of suprise helped me out (and some lucky bloodlust rolls)

Game 2
Nightwings v Lawrence's Pro Elves.
I felt like this was the game that I could have won, but didnt. It was a bit scrappy from my end, I got a bit frustrated with the lack of Skills and too many bloodlust 1's at my end, but I knew that going in. Lawrence played a good game, outplayed me, brought numbers against my Vampires to neuter their higher Strength, and dodged away from them when he couldnt. My few blocks were largely ineffective in the first half only breaking the ARM7 a few time for no real results, but that changed in the second half. New Thrall recruit from the last Game Dunkel went on a frenzy, knocking down 2 elves over 2 turns and injuring both of them. and then he even managed to get his hands on the ball and make a dash for the endzone (only to be pulled down by 2 elves inches from scoring. if only a double push...) end score 0-2.

Game 3.
Nightwings v Kyle's Dark Elves.
Kyle is our local MBBL league commish, and it being my first year in the league hes made it rather fun so far. So we got to have a good little game and a bit of a chat, Kyles a nice sort of chatty guy. I was a little dubius with a fresh loss to an elf team in my mind and thoughts of his witch elf frenzy crowd pushing. (its the sort of lesson only learnt the hard way) so with a slightly deeper and central defense than i like to play I set up. We got the game going and I think Kyle actually stripped me of the ball and my offense quickly turned into defense, yet after a large melee on the east wing the ball came loose and Kyle opened up for the first score. Not much of the half remained and we quickly got into the sencond half. With some determined play the Vampire moved up field and were able to push around a few elves, the casualties were begining to mount (I had managed to kill a line elf in the 2nd turn by Kyle used the apoc to save) so thralls were laying up some good screening and the vampire switch the play made the score half way through the 2nd half. Some tenacious D saw them hold the score at 1-1 at full time. a great game and day of BB.

So Day one ended with me on W-L-D. very respectable for someone at their first tournament (well BB one anyway)

Myself and Diesel retired back to mayplace for a good old chin wag (so he didnt have to drive back to Geelong) and some greasy rabbit...

Day 2

So Myself and Diesel travelled back into to town for the remaining 2 games, Diesel doing slightly better than me with his trusty (?) Skaven Rats with 2 wins and a loss. So we meet up with Roy (nursing a nice hangover incured from a BBQ) and the rest of the players. JoeKano explains the plan for the day Game 1, shortish lunch break and painting judging (of which he would select 3 teams or single minature from those entered to then be decided on by popular vote) and then we would have game 2 and the awards and be out by mid afternoon

So Game 4
Nightwings v Brad(Myuso?) Skaven
Ive had a bit of practice against skaven (Diesel) before so I felt confident going into the game. Again someone who hadnt played against Vamps Brad was preparing for the worst. It wasnt that bad. We both played a good game, I probably should have held up the ball in the first half to run down the clock to stop the rats from a chance of scoring, but i tend to not play that way (always goes badly for me, better to run it in when you can) so The first half finished me up 1-0. Brad came back and scored a fast one by turn 2 or 3. Plenty of time for me to get ahead again. Some brusing plays left one of my vamps exposed, Brad moved in and layed the block. broke armour and bam. dead vamp. im thinking no prob regen - as soon as the dice left my hand I knew it was bad. 3. dead vamp. (and he was a good one, already had +1MV and had scored 6spp that game already) That narked me a bit (sorry brad) I expect players to get hurt in BB, but when its a developing vamp (and the one that had gotten most of the spp that game already) it sends you back to the drawing board. Managed to get a thrall over the line for a TD and win the game, but the loss of the vamp was a big blow to the team. 2-1 win.

Painting
Well normally I dont enter painting comps. Im an ok table top painter. as in if you put the figures on the table top and take a step back they look fairly good, but my hands and eyes arnt that steady so im not much for fine detail. Roy and Diesel I would say are both good painters, both different styles but both neat and clean. There were a few other entries, Kieths Amazon Nun team (shadowforge figs) and Marcus put in his Vrag Ghoulchewer (the older one, not current) and Lawrance put in his pro elves, I didnt get a chance to see the others. Joe made his top picks, Lawrences Pro Elves, Marcus' Vrag and Diesels Skaven team. I was a bit suprised that Roy's High Elves didnt make the cut, I think they had some more attention to detail than the pro elves or Vrag.

Game 5.
Nightwings v Tim's Underworld Creeper team
Hadnt played against UC team before, and tim hadnt played against vamps, so we got onto a quick explain what each did and got to it. Tim played a good game, we each smashed each other around, with his Troll and blitzer going through Thralls and Vamp alike, but his linerats and goblins were quickly carted from the field as well. We both played a good fun game, each took some risks and each got some returns for some more risky play. the end score was 2-2 and cas 4-4. a top game from the young lad (and I think I was lucky to get away with what i got) I really missed the 4th vamp in the last game.

So All dusted off and the end result with me getting 2 wins, 2 draws and a loss, far exceeded my aim of 2 wins - 3 losses. The Vampires did better than I expected, with Bloodlust probably only costing me the one loss (but I had a particularly bad run of luck that game, which causes me to play even more risky BB to get it back) So my thoughts of Vampires being a second rate team of competative play quashed, im keen to keep them going this year. JoeKano got on with the awards Paul wiinning over all and getting first dip at the prize table, Roy getting highest TD's got him a dip, Diesel got best painted (well deserved) had a dip, suprisingly I got most casualties inflicted (well i was suprised) and I got a Hubris Rakarth (is it a sign to start the Delf team I always wanted?) and Raihan won best sportsman (again well deserved) and Frogbear got toughest team.

All in all the WAACY crew (myself, diesal and Roy) we all very stunned that we all did so well at our first event. WE are all very thankfull for our opponents, the organisers and our families for being there or letting us be there. I look forward to more BB in Victoria. And expect to hear from us again on that subject (the WAACY crew are all tournament organisers for WM, 40k and other games)

So again thanks to one and all, a super fun couple of days of BB. cant think of a better way to spend on a long weekend.
