Hi All,
In the not-to-distant future (well, actually pretty soon) Good Games Burwood will be host to a Warhammer 40,000 Army Challenge. This one’s for Bragging rights! (though there will also be prizes)
Venue: Burwood Good Games, 195A Burwood Rd
Time: Thursday evenings from 6:30 pm
The Challenge starts Thursday, 4 June at 6:30 pm
The idea is to build, paint and learn to effectively field your army of choice over a period of 5 months.
This is a perfect opportunity for someone who wants to get into W40k, wants to build a new army, finish one that’s been gathering dust or just wants to find a friendly group of people to play.
If you want in, send an email to the organiser (disc_o_tzeentch@hotmail.com) before the 4th. Late comers are welcome.
Week 1 - Meet and greet
Meet your fellow challengers and confirm your army choice. Very casual and we’ll have a couple of boards for games if you feel like it
Week 2 - Boss Bash
250 points to spend on a HQ choice. You may have up to 1 Troops choice (counts as a ‘retinue’) if you have trouble spending 250 points.
Week 4 - Noob Squads
400 point match. 1 HQ, 2 troops, up to 1 piece of wargear worth up to 25 points, nothing more than 2 wounds, no 2+ saves, no armour values total more than 33
Week 6 - Random 1
Based on the 'Squig Hunter theme'. This is a random game challenge that will only be revealed on the night
Week 8 - Fast and Furious
500 points. 1 HQ, 1+ Troops, 0 - 1 everything else, up to 1 piece of wargear worth up to 25 points, nothing with more than 2 wounds, no 2+ saves, no armour values total more than 33
Week 10 - Strike Forces
750 points. Standard force organisation. Team event
Week 12 - You and what army?
1,000 points. Standard force organisation
Week 14 - Random 2
Another random challenge that I haven't bothered to think up yet. It'll be stupid, obscenely complicated and ridiculously unbalanced but it's supposed to be a bit of fun, so why not?
Week 16 – Say hello to my little friend
1,250 points. Standard force organisation. Team event
Week 18 - Grand Finale
1,500 points. Standard force organisation. May break this into two rounds
Week 20 - Overflow
In case the calendar gets pushed back. We could also do another Team or Random event
Every other week not listed is a painting evening where everyone is encouraged to come along and paint. Friendly matches are welcome at this time. If you can’t make every Thursday, this isn’t a problem. Just come along when you can.
Prizes
Each listed week will contribute to a total overall points score (loss=2, draw=3, win=4). The player with the most points at the end receives the Grand Prize (yet to be decided – but likely at this stage to be something to the value of a tank).
Everyone who completes their army by Week 20 will receive a prize. That means fully painted and participated in the majority of battles (win, lose or draw).
Random scattered prizes throughout.
Painting
To encourage painting throughout, UNPAINTED models are worth 50% more victory points to the enemy. They also score 50% less victory points for you. UNASSEMBLED / PROXIED models are worth 100% more victory points to the enemy and count as non-scoring units for you. NOTE: HORDE armies (ie Orks, Guard etc) will have less stringent rules given the numbers to paint
Miniature Purchase
You may start with up to 500 pts existing models (in a reasonably unfinished state!). To reflect this, rules for unpainted miniatures will not be in affect until week 6 so people starting from scratch are not at disadvantage from the start.
To be eligible for prizes, your miniatures must be purchased through Good Games at their standard 10% discount. I encourage everyone to do this to support our local business providing us with a great venue to play at!
War of the Beard
To prevent people building obscenely overpowered and totally no fun to play against armies, we’ll be introducing the ‘Cheese Board’. A fancy way of saying that if the majority of players on the night find a players build ‘Beardy’ or ‘Cheesy’, that players points for that round will be halved.
We want to keep it fair and most of all, fun for all involved.
