I have always seen Strigoi as lords of a bunch of cannibals and freaks...
And having massive piles of loot they do not care about.
(Hence the canabalistic DOW /Mengils/)

And I also decided to go back to my roots of the zombie horde so let me know what ya think CHEERS (BTW this is not open season on me Golden Monkey hehe)

Firstly, your char mix.

I'd go with...

Count - Perfect as-is.
Thraall - Batform.
2x Necro - Book, Periapt, 2 scrolls.

At 2500pts, you're going to see a lot of magic-heavy armies. Without the xtra scroll and dispel dice.. I think you're screwed.

Sure. Zombies are neat. But Skeletons are far more reliable. Flip out a couple of Zombie blocks for Skeletons.

Ghoul champs are pants. You can't magehunt when you get randomly challenged. Drop the champs, and maybe have a couple of units at 9 strong for duabilty.

Wolves.. maybe consider a unit at 10 strong with leader, to use as a flanker?

Bats- exellent.

I personally dislike spirthosts.

And the main thing.. YOU'RE SPENDING 363 POINTS ON THOSE GUYS?

Sure they're cool.. but 363pts? If it's just the models you like, use them as ghouls

For the points they are, you could afford a black knight hammer and more.


If I were building the army, it'd look something like.. (though I'd be Carstien)

Count - L2, sinews, summon, revenant.
Thrall - Batform (Or iron sinews/hate)
2x Necro, book, periapt, 2x scroll.

20 skeletons, full command.
20 skeletons, full command.
20 zombies
20 zombies

5 wolves
5 wolves
10 wolves, champ.

6 ghouls
6 ghouls
9 ghouls

10 knights, full command, banner of the barrows

black coach, converted to corpse cart or something.

... and that's probably only about 2000ish pts.

Be agressive... and hope I helped.

But thats the point, Black knights and such don't really fit in the Strigoi army.

Sart - I really like this army. I would probably drop teh Manflayers for two banshees - but that may be because I am on the banshee bandwagon.
I would also lose one of the zombie units, use the points to make all the gouls to 9 strong, and left over points to increase the size of the zombies, need to make em bigger than 20 to help the outnumber - 20 is a standard number. And possible Spirit hosts to 3 if it fits.

Hmmm i really dont see it working without the extra mages, A thrall simply cannot compensate for what the enemy will do to zombies... but if u think it works then i guess u know somthing i dont about Strigoi!

Ok Ghoul units of six work perfect.... And the Champions work fine.. If a mage challenges me with his 1 attack I will wn anyways so who cares...

3 spirit hosts Are great for the flank but the 2 are just gonna be used as a chariot stopper or a midfield Support flanker.

I went for as low magic as was practical..... And for the record I am 1 dispel scroll short from ppl usual prerequisite 2x lvl 2 mages ....

So explain to me how I am sooo magically vunreable (ppl where saying my suarus would get magically owned but it wasnt, even vs Von Carstien
And tomb kings)

So I like my Character Selection, Thrall flying around ussually just gets killed via magic or cannon or shooting no point to it.

I also went the Manflayers because they sorta make me feel better about not taking a speicial character and they fit the theme of my army perfectly. That and the fact they are hard as nails

My units may only be 20 to start with.
But for the first couple of turns all i am going to be doing is summoning and adding to my units.

My flanks are fine and I suppose after i test it I might see some flaws but so far all I have gotten besides Kens comments is to take Voncarstiens or turn this into a unthemed monstrosity.... Please guys read the post fully and come back with some viable critisicm....

And Ken I love banshees too

hey big boy 1 question in strigoi aint dire wolves and fell bats special choices if so it may be illegal personally in your army i think the banshees are a good choice but the man flayers stick in theme a little better looks solid on paper let us know how it plays

Maybe it's just the circles that we play in but i really dont see u raising ANYTHING for AT LEAST 3 turns with this list, short of an irresistable!

Most of the armies i play with/against will have a minimum of 5 dispel dice and 2-3 scrolls (my rats for eg have 3 scrolls because i only have 4 dice) so by that logic those armies could comfortably stop EVERY spell u cast for the first 2-3 turns.

Then u have the combat issue, ure strigoi thrall will have to do ALL the fighting for every unit of zombies, they strike last and do sweet FA even IF they get to strike... Goblin spearmen will do an average of 3 kills on ure zombie unit... coupled with numbers advantage ure thrall has to do ALOT just to break even and that not even an even pts matchup!

Units of 6 ghouls with LD 6... their going to run as soon as anyone farts on them...

Direwolf and fell bat units are all too small to have a real impact as are the spirit hosts.

Basically IMO u have the unit numbers advantage but NONE of these units could fight worth a grain of salt.... Unless the enemy is silly enough to spread out and let u get into flanks and things u really are in trouble. If they just block up and advance u don't have the fight power to bust through or the magic for ure small squishy zombie units to last long.

Like i said though this is just the opininons of someone who is not playing ure list or in your circles. If u think it will work then go for it... maybe ure right Or maybe u end up like nasher all full of hot air as the newest member of our gaming group spanks ure arse when u come down for a real fight!

Hillary it isnt a back of the book list.... It is just a strigoi themed list....

And GM I have used Units of six Ghouls for the past 4 Years and never had a problem....

And to be honest whatever is gonna fart on em is gonna probably make a unit of 9 run just as fast as a unit of 6.

As to my tiny units of 20......... I have 5 units of 20 all of witch can be added to etc u are assuming of course that yur mages are going to be there from start to finish.

That simply aint the case.

Summon Ghouls is great for getting rid of unwary mages/ Artillery.
The very same things that whittle down m units.... But I do see yur point.
But I have been playing Zombie Hordes for a long time now and I find that the number 20 is just about perfect for this kind of army...

Anymore then that and they become a liability in points and un weildly in movement

The spirit hosts are midfield support any bigger and they are a points sink....

The Mengils stay!!! Just had a game with them and they gaind me a additional 300 Victory points!!!!!! (that is on top of the unit points )

I am sick of playing banshees up here in the heavy Undead immune to Phycology enviroment so I love but this time the banshees stay home.

And to be honest the army is designed to be able to survive without the heavy magic with this amount of units I can hold my line the thrall units break through and begin the flanking all the while the continual 2 spells on 3 d6 is knocking on yur magical defence door every turn.....

I am happy with how it went today vs a chaos Mortal Army
(Mark o Nurgul) So no outnumber an fear.

But am playing A top Notch beast army tonight so I am curious as to how iI will go

Sarty - if you so desperately want Mengils keep em, But you did ask for comments on your army.

I personally like the army how it is, and don't think you should change much. However - don't for a second think you will be doing anything but defending in magic phases. Your zombies are small, and you will be lucky to get an onvo off every 2 turns. when you consider you have 4 units of zombies, you will be VERY lucky to add to each unit once a game.

Remember, you can't count on adding zombies together. I know plenty of units that can go through 20 fairly easily. I do think 4 units of 25 is alot better than 5 of 20, as you have skellies in there as well.

MMM thx for the Idea of 25 Ken I will try em both out vs a heavy magic strong army...

I do Know in their magic phase I will be defending Erm how do u play offensivly in their magic phase?????

Power Dice stil worry me and i am seriously toying with the idea of taking another Necro with the rod of I strike first etc etc

I tested it out and 3 summons was just a little over kill had unit doing not much.

Yeah, depending on My Magic Phase both my Armies could cause you some major headaches

And the only way you would be getting spells of would be irresistables against my Skinks, with 11 DD

Well I am 66th Atm not bad considering I have only 2 tourneys under my belt and my latest 6th place finish is yet to be put up.

I am hardly a noob I have been out of the tourny scene for quite sometime.

But am slowly making my come back how many tournys till masters

If I can make it to enough tournys I have no doubt I will be able to make it.
