A bit like Mango's thread
Heres a pic of a Space Marine from a new Chapter I am working on. They are 'Drop Pod' based marines, the list can be seen here:
http://www.wargamerau.com/viewtopic.php?t=7710
Anyway, here is the first test model:
And an 'In Action' shot against one of my 'Nids
Anyway, what do you think?
The Brown/Chainmail scheme has really grown on me.
Most of the models in the Tactical/Command Squads will be converted to a degree, this guy is plain ol' Joe Regular, to get a look at the sheme rather than the converting.
Also, Names:
-Sons of Iron
-Iron Sons
-Ferrous Legion
-Ferric Knights (one of my faves

)
Cheers,

Nah I dunno I suck at names. However the colours are good. Awesome even, for whatever reason I really like the brown/silver combo too.

Im strongly considering Ferric Knights, opinions?

How about 'Silver Storm'.

he he he he
How about Metal Storm? its also the name of a kick arse weapons system invented by an Aussie with a massive rate of fire that makes a mini-gun look VERY slow!
Nice colour, one word of advice? Please dont use a gloss spray finish!! A nice matt srface really looks good on these schemes.

Ferric Knights sounds pretty cool... The scheme looks really nice, its also pretty "different" from the normal marine you see around...

Nice simple scheme, too.

I really like this colour scheme, for your command/elites you could use a dark gold or highlight the brown with gold to make them stand out.

Cheers fellas :-D
Looks like a running tie between:
Sons of Ferrous
and,
Ferric Knights
Bails: It doesnt have such a glossy finish, its mainly how the photo came out and light source I used. The Chainmail is a very reflective colour :-D
QUOTE
what brown/ combinations of brown did you use?
From Black, i went to Bestial Brown, and highlighted with Snakebite Leather, and then a very light Brown Ink wash (mainly on the crest). The Ink was is probably why the crest seems a little dull.
QUOTE
Nice scheme, I thought it was a Silver Skull chapter marine.
Silver Skulls were tempting, but they are a much more dull shade of metal, its like a drybrushed Boltgun, and Im not a fan.

Thanks Zippy. I don’t want to disrupt the Brown for the chests too much. For the Command Squad I was thinking Brown or White helmets.
Brown to match the rest of the theme colours, or White because all the Sergeants are upgraded to Apothecaries, and will be in white.

I like the brown bolters, I like em alot. Listen up you primitive screw heads! See this? *This* is my *boom stick*! The 12-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about $109.95. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. *You got that*?
My vote out of the two is Sons of Ferrous since Ferric doesn't *feel* like a real word (although I know it is) and Iron Knights is an existing chapter written about in the Eye of Terror campaign - they fought a trench war against the Death Guard (they are listed as having blue-grey armour).
Don't touch that please, your primitive intellect wouldn't understand things with alloys and compositions and things with... molecular structures.
You know, for a guy that doesn't like the Iron Hands fluff, you have made 2 successor chapters (so it seems). Hmmm.....Silver Fists, Sons of the Forge, Steel Panthers (WWII nickname for tanks), Angry Angels (drop pod reference), Screaming Eagles (ditto), Knights Triumphant, Knights Implacable, Iron Eagles (ooohhhh I like that one, meal, drop pods, nickname for planes, 80's movie I loved to bits as a kid). Just a few ideas....I am full of them...

The Iron Eagles is just too good!! Especially for a drop pod army! Sounds like a nice cross between Iron hands & Raven Guard.
I like the Sons of Ferrous better than the other option but someone is going to ask - who was Ferrous? lol! and you know what comes next...

You could use the new Raptors chapter stuff from forgeworld or the griffongames eagle type transfers. (Now why didn't I think of this name for my chapter!)
Buddha
Jun 30 2005, 05:15 PM
Hmm, Iron Eagles, we have a winner :-D
Originally it was going to be a Doom Eagles army, but all that Red on Silver is nasty :-D
Alloys? Compositions? Molecular structure? Hey, Ive done Chem 100 and 101, I know a little about that sort of thing. Thats where i came across the term Ferric, its something old and obsucre most people wouldnt know what it meant, as opposed to the modern terminology for the element.
Iron Hands succesors? Nah, I havent written the fluff, but there not going to be an Iron Hands Cult. They probably wont be a successor chapter, maybe Imperial Fists though, if any. Remember, they suffer to fulfil 'Purity above all' :-D
Raptors Forgeworld stuff? Maybe if I was going to use Vehicles, or Terminators for that matter. But Im not. For now, they are Drop Pods based. Might get some Rhino's and a Landraider down the track though, depends on how much I get done past the 1500 point list.
Cheers,
Tom

When I saw the brown bolters and people dissing them I thought of Ash in Army of Darkness and his explanation of his shotgun (walnut stock and all). The jibe about alloys is another quote from him in the same movie when he is using a medival forge to create modern weapons.
And glad to help, Tom. I am an ideas man!
IFs, eh? The Swords of Damocles are an IF successor chapter. Welcome to the fold, cousin.

Looks sweet Bhudda, the colours really contrast and is a different way of doing marines, and by the looks of things not to complicated(from what i can see, for all i know it takes 34 hours to paint 1 marine)
The Brown on the bolter is great, keep it.

Far out, you put something up on Photoucket and it will be there forever!
Yeah, just thought I would post to say that this army never did go anywhere beyond planning and this model.
I never gave the drop-pod army a good crack unfortunately.
I still have this guy sitting there somewhere with a pile of other test models.
I did however end up doing my own SM chapter:
The White Hands, successor chapter to the Iron Hands.

The above pic was taken a while ago, since then a few changes have been made; a Rhino became a Razorback, and a Predator became a Whirlwind, and some squad changes, but you get the gist

Tom

its nice to see old projects crushed and left in the dark to cut their wrists, and see new ones spring forth so successfully like Alien from the chest of an under nourished gymnast...
And by that of course i meant to say nice marines there Tom

Hey mate,
I don't want to be the one to put a spanner in the works but for such a charismatic colour scheme, you need a charismatic name.... and quite frankly... Iron Eagles in my opinion sounds common (Even though you are basing them as drop-pod marines). I have come up with a couple of names that you can take or leave. You could even say that they pre-date the Ultramarines and have the purest strain of genetics???
"Steel Angels"
"Lore Keepers"
"Ancient Fists"
"Alpha Marines"
"The Emperor's Children"
"The Forgotten"
"Cold Ravens"
"Sons of Steel"
No slight intended but anything has got to be better "Iron Eagles"..... but if you like it then stick to your guns!!
Cheers,
Mick.

Lol,
I thought this was dead and buried...
again, but obviously not

Well, I am about to come into the company of 20 Marines, 10 Terminators and 2 Dreadnaughts (a couple of Assault on Black Reach boxe's) and these guys were pretty easy to paint before... I have been looking for a colour scheme to do another quick marine army.
I seriously still dig the 'Iron Eagles'.
Mickjink, dude, I am pretty sure you didnt just come up with "The Emperor's Children"... I think they have been around a while
