G'day guys,

The chaos diary was lame and wasn't going anywhere because i've started a different army. Daemonhunter. Long story short, these boys will be taken to Arc next year - which is only just over a month away! I'm really cutting it close this year. Then, hopefully the army will be used on the rest of next years tournament scene.

But why daemonhunters?

I've always been a big fan of the daemonhunters and grey knights since their release in 3rd ed. The artwork was inspiring, and the miniatures were fantastic. The background and story of the Ordo Malleus is unique to this army alone. I mean, what's cooler than hunting daemons?

Getting down to the modelling side of things now, and i really envisioned this army to be unique. Therefore, i've chosen to make my own grey knights in power armour from other space marine plastic kits, in combination with some grey knight halberds. The wrist mounted storm bolter is a secret right now Right now, i really haven't started any work on the Grey Knights, though i have begun some solid work on the stormtroopers.

At first, i was stumped on what to use as ST models. Everyone uses kasrkin models, the cadian plastics didn't fully suit the look, and i'm not the biggest fan of the old ][ST models. Then it hit me. I dug up some old vostroyan models i never used and set out on converting them up. I used imperial guard and scout sniper heads in replacedment of the massive funny hats the original models have. Combined, i think that the look is great. It keeps in theme with the daemonhunters archaic looking armour, but has a new sci-fi edge to it with the addition of the scout heads.

The bases are set on a rocky sort of daemon world, with some bones lain across the ground, and chaos shards sticking from the ground to further enhance the feel of the theme.

Yeah. Adam. Hope you are planning on fleshing the diary out for JD too. Appreciate you'll be under the pump to get the models out for Arc but you need not stop there with the diary. Fluff, battle reports, list development and any further paint / model work would be useful additions.

We need to have JoL open up at this traditionally busy period in the regular 'new season, new army' calendar. We realise players generally start with Arc for the year and we want to capture this talent as part of the comp. I would however prefer the slant to be focussed on the 750 as the judges will only be reviewing the content related to that.

This is fine though. Personally, my diary has gone beyond the 750 already and closer to the end of the competition I'll be tidying the whole thing up with an accurate index page with links to the relevant content. The same might work for you.

Good luck with it. Models are looking sweet so far. Looking forward to seeing the converted Grey Knights.

Ok, so sadly these guys didn't make it to Arc because i didn't want to rush them. MiF gives me a little more time to get the army complete, and is my target tournament.

I've almost finished construction of the first grey knights squad. They are all missing their storm bolter gauntlets because these parts still need to be molded and cast.

Here's how they are looking at the moment, and i'm really pleased with how they turned out.



Because of the fact they are plastic, it gives me great flexibility to create more dynamic and pose-able models.

I also got a heap of cool Forgeworld goodies to kit out my vehicles, though need to place another order for some more cool stuff like the GK Dreadnought and the Land Raider variant. Oh, and i've ordered some awesome-cool chaos bases as well, and i think they'll go perfectly for the army.

Yep. The justicar already has the greenstuff work done on him, those the others still need it. As well as being on the legs, the gold runes are also in the left shoulder pad.

If i can get myself to start painting, i'll try and knock off that storm trooper squad, and make a start on construction for their rhino as well.

I've decided i'm ditching the bases i've made (which can be seen on the stormtroopers), for these more fitting bases from MicroArt Studio.

I think they look perfect for what i originally wanted to achieve which was having my daemonhunters on an actual daemon world.

Bases have arrived, and i managed to get some painted to completion for the stormtroopers. Here are the first 5;



I wanted a brimstone look for the rocks, but have it on a khornate looking daemon world, hence the brass chains and details on the bases. I decided not to go for the glowing chaos runes becuase i wanted to stay away from the volcanic bases like more armies have today They definitely are a step up IMO.

Fine, fine. I was talking with Budd, and i've decided to go with a bloodied effect in the runes to not detract from the model itself. I'll use Tamiya clear red and some other crap for it.

Actually, i can always change the basing theme to Tzeentch with ease. It'd work just as well, and allow me to use glowing blue in the runes which won't detract from the models as the grey knight nemesis weapons will be bright blue, along with other details.

Looks like i may need some votes here. What do people think?

You are a biased Tzeentch fan ... actually after initially thinking Blue, I am more for Red... still something to spice the bases, but not as much contrast with the model.

yes, blue is already a prominent colous in the pallette, so picking another colous that will not only contrast well, but stand out nicely would be a good idea.

Great Success! The moulding has worked fantastically.

The resin only has a 30min drying time, so these bad boys will be punched out quite frequently which is a big help to me.

What do you think?
