Well, this Saturday a few friends and I had our first game of Malifaux. After watching several well-played games at the Synthetic Militia Club day we were ethusiastically awaiting our own test run. I played Ramos and thoroughly enjoyed his play style. My firend mastered Sonya Criid and was playing well until my Steamborg mutilated his female master.

The second game I played against Seamus and The Ortega family. Both the Seamus gang and my Ramos crew were out gunned by the gunslingers, having said that it was an enjoyable experience with lots of laughs as the black joker appeared at crucial moments everytime.

I would like to ask, are the Ortegas the only really shooty gang out there or is it possible to build a good shooty gang that doesn't involve the family?

I don't think anyone could field a Crew quite as shooty as the Ortegas but you could field an Outcasts crew featuring the Convict Gunslinger, Hans and Rusty Alice but it wouldn't be the same.

Seamus has a nasty .50 Flintlock but lacks range.

Glad you like the game, we;re having a blast with it.

Yay, Toadie!

You are now officially ahead of where I am at in the scheme of Malifaux. armata_PDT_37.gif

Isn't everyone Luke, considering your ramos box is sitting on my table at the moment.

I only took it off your hands so you wouldnt get distracted by them while you finished reading the rules, and learnt what that really long button at the bottom me your keyboard does.

Yeah, lack of spaces happen when right in the silly season of erratic parcel deliveries and utter madness your main computer decides to $%#& itself and you are left to recover and battle endless orders on the tiniest laptop/keyboard in the world (you have seen the laptop). I even wondered whether I should have edited that post... With Papa, I now know I should. tongue.gif

Shooty Mercs would be interesting...Convict Gunslinger isn't amazing but he'll chew your opponent's hand ready for Rusty's BOOMHEADSHOT!

It would really come down to the Rare restrictions.

Tina or Criid would be worth considering as a Master as they are shooty as.

Would be interesting to run them against the Ortegas and see who won.

Rusty Alice will only work for Ramos or Leveticus so you would be a little restricted.

I thought Rusty just didn't give you the extra two Contol Cards or whatever if you didn't take Leveticus or Ramos?

I also thought I was turning up to the last two planned games, so that is not really a strong indicator either way smile.gif

Difficult Child; when hired by another faction master she cost 2 soul stones.

Recycled; only crews with at least 1 scavenger master can hire this model.

Double post for getting back on topic:

You probably need more terrain, actually go through what it suggests in the book.

Keeps the Ortegas well under control.

Should be pretty normal for a Height 1 spider swarm to double Walk up to a ranged clown and Melee Master its face off before anyone gets a clear shot.

Seamus is actually one of the harder masters to play in my opinion.
If only because his starter set doesn't dish out a lot of damage and their board control abilities require a bit of knowledge of what your opponent wants to do.

Ramos is great, get to know how long a double walk plus melee range is for his swarms. Also horde cards for Stoke if you draw them, with swarms you can do some quite obscene things inheriting Reactivate and Companion both swarming and splitting up.
