I've decided to turn the Warhammer Chaos Temple of Skulls into a Necron themed terrain piece.
So far I've filled in the Chaos icon, filling in the teeth on the giant skulls and cleaned off the spikes on the pillars.

What to people think? Has anyone else done it?

missed some on the first pic. fallen pillar.

good idea though, interested in seeing it painted.

If you paint it dark green tinted stone it might work out ok.

Challenging concept, I would like to see how you pull it off...

However, if you notice most references to Necrontyr suggest that they 'build things to last' and in most fluff Imperial weapons dont make a dent on their constructions...

This being said, it could have been reduced to rubble some time ago or by xenos.

Let's see how it turns out.

I'd taken the photo before deciding to clip off the spikes. I've also given up on clipping the spikes on the side of the pillars off, I'll just disguise them.

I see the piece as more a shrine that was made by humans, thus the shody construction. It also explains why the skulls aren't actual Necron sized and why it's not a tomb.
The skulls will be a metal colour, not sure if I'll go a generic silver or a copper and I'll be painting the stonework in a green marble. Where the Chaos symbol was, I plan on engraving this symbol & paining it gold.

I think the full implies that the tombs are impregnated with a sort of stasis field which makes them so hard to destroy, but it could be that a xenos weapon caused the destruction. You should paint the skulls mostly silver but spotted with rust.

I can believe that. Sorry for doubting your concept.

As for the metalic skulls, if it were a human shrine to worship them, I could also believe that they would expend valuable resources in its construction. So go nuts... make the pillars marble and the skulls gold if you think it will be a striking terrain piece or base for a diorama.

I would like to see step-by-step of the engraving, just to know what tools you used and how you tackled it.

I plan on doing a heap of 'runed' base inserts for my chaos sorcerors once my WoC army is assembled.

IF you have the tools and rescources, you could make the icon from wire, solder together what you need to and just heat the whole thing up and melt the symbol into it
maybe
