When I started playing WFB last July I wasn't sure if I wanted to try Warriors of Chaos, or Beasts of Chaos. In the end I went warriors cause I had a unit and some characters I was using in WHQ, but I always wanted to put together beasts at some point.

After playing for a couple weeks I took the warriors to Pilgrimage, and that was great fun. The warriors have now been painted up and taken to DogCon and I loved the way they turned out! So, next up, BEASTS!

As part of my clubs Tale of Many Gamers (http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=87165) I've decided to run beasts. Was a bit of "umm" and "ahhh" if I would take them as rumors last year were that the new book was a joke. But I decided I would take them, and a couple days after the tale started the official new rules started popping up on the net, and there was much rejoicing by me!

The tale runs until July, just in time to take the Beasts to the tourney that got me started; Pilgrimage!

I really like the new book, and love that it's "Beastmen", because that is exactly the type of army I wanted, blood crazed foaming at the mouth half-goat half-men with giant minotaurs, more bull than man (greek style minotaur, not furry friendly fantasy style), charging with bloodshot eyes.

And that's exactly what I want to try and capture in my army!

Now, the club's tale has already begun, and month 1 ends tonight. The new book isn't out yet, so I'm already lagging behind the others, but by the end of next month I will have almost 2.5k of beasts together. Painting my warriors for DogCon and my job limited any time I could dedicate to month 1, so all I have is some assembled models.

The plan is to try and capture a dynamic charging horde look. Will have to wait for the plastics to see what is possible. I loved converting my warrior army and look forward to the new beastmen kits! Even the steroid-abusing minotaurs! But you can leave the razorgors at home, those models are horrible! Nothing is too "dynamic" yet, but next month with all the new plastics will be lots of fun!

So here is what I have assemled so far:

A wargor, a BSB, and Gorthor to be used as a Shaman. I think he looks ace!

IPB Image

Obligatory hounds, 10 "old kit" Gors, and 15/20 (saving the last few for new kits command) Ungors with spears, which include a 40x40mm and 2x 20x40mm unit fillers.

IPB Image

And finally, old and new chariots.

*****

Ok ok, so a slow start, but I promise big and better things! And less text next update!

What I envision for my army is:

Beastlord (still debating Doombull, will have to wait for new book, but maybe even Great Shaman)
Gorbull BSB
Shaman
Shaman

3x Ungor raiders
2-3x Chariots
Hounds
Gors

2x 4 Minotaurs
2x Harpies

Cygor
Jabberslyth
(those two are going to be tricky but fun to create!)

And models currently en route from different stockists:

3 Minotaur boxes
3 Gor boxes
3 Ungor boxes
2 Bestigor boxes
Malagor (use as a shaman, matches Gorthor)
AoW Beastlord (love the look of this model)

Also, in around 2 months I'll have a "bonus" for the tale. Something I want to do and will have the spare parts for it, so can't wait!

Anyways, I got work to do.
sharper1911
Nice work Conan, I still haven't even come close to completing my lizards and you are already into a new army.

The new beasts book looks good and hopefully it will provide them with a bit more punch.
Nine Volt Cat
your bases are look pretty similar to your warriors ones.
i do like the ungor unit fillers though, what did you use to stand them on?

and what happened to using back to basix forest bases idea?
Conan B
The forest bases are coming. Gors/Ungors/Hounds were based before I decided to get the b2b, but all the new models will be on the b2b stuff, and I may actually get some new dogs and use those ones for my warriors.

I like the shaman/bsb on the stones, as the forest bases don't have any good ones that would make them "above" the other gors. And to differ them from my warriors I may go a winter theme.

And the unit fillers are just bits of wood I got from outside work smile.gif
Tiny
hey that wargor and bsb look awesome!

Conan mate I have a few spare b2b forest bases if you want em.

Same here, I can dig up a fair few you can have if you need!
Conan B
Definitely have a need!
My order arrived in the post today and I discovered they made an error. I ordered 30x 20mm bases and only received 20, and instead received 30x 25mm when I had ordered 20. Slightly annoyed as I needed all the 20mm for all the ungors I'm getting. So if you guys have 20mm I'll definitely take them!

Same goes for any cav bases tongue.gif

Will have minotaurs and some raiders this weekend, looking forward to assembling them! Hopefully the limbs are suitable for converting into more dynamic poses.
Theodore
All my Base Belong to you!

I'll give them to Nick or Sam when they come up for vigilence. Now to find them.....

-Theo
Conan B
Awesome! Look forward to them! Any sizes you think you have in particular?

When I got home I had another package stuffed into the mailbox (getting a little worried about that, even oversized boxes they just leave hanging 60% out of the box for others to steal...), my nice shiny AoW Beastlord!

So now I need to decide which base to put him on. Opinions?

20mm from my woodies.

Hoorays! I can tell I'll need plenty of them smile.gif
Tiny
far left to have him towering over the others imo
Conan B
Decided the far left is just too tall and has him angled badly sad.gif

It's down to far right or second from the left. The 2nd has him fairly high still, and the far right is easier to mount on and keeps him level. Will wait till the weekend for when the minotaurs are here to decide.
Nine Volt Cat
i like second to the left out the two options you gave us.
Conan B
I'd have more pics up, but I seem to have snapped my pin drill bit in the 40mm resin bases, and I'm out of poly cement! >.<

Will get some and have assembled Minos and raiders this weekend.

PS, the new plastic Mino models are damn hot! Pity they are so expensive for so little. And boy are they hard to customise, so much so I decided to leave the initial 6 alone. Will get another 6 to convert up a Gorebull and Doombull and add an extra unit of XHW.

Meanwhile my large order from Maelstrom is yet to be dispatched. Will it make it here before end of the month? Who wants to place a bet?...
Conan B
Not a big update I'm afraid, still waiting on my big maelstrom order to arrive.

Thought I would throw up these two pics just to be sure I have the assembled requirements for our clubs little tale.

Sadly I'm going to once again miss the paint scores sad.gif
One day Gadget!
And I'm also going to miss the conversion points because my two converted units, Harpies and Centigors, haven't had their pivotal parts arrive! (wings and horses).

Anyways, AWESOME AoW Beastlord on his stump!

IPB Image

And the new plastic Minotaurs, which I seriously LOVE! Have more coming so will have more XHW guys, and a Gorebull conversion to do.

IPB Image

I'm a little worried about trying to build the big beasties, as I need to find a good basis for the Jabberslythe (originally was going with the "Through the Looking Glass" style, but now want some fetid flying beastie) and also for the Ghorgon (Giant model isn't right for an oversized Minotaur).
goth_wazdakka
maybe for the gorgan u could look at converting up the old metal giant model???
Mouseketeer
Gorgon = start with a Thirster.. smile.gif

Looking good mate - powering through em that's fo' sho'!!

Keep it up.

Mouse
Conan B
Some stuff is starting to arrive now.

Got 20 raiders partly assembled, will try and have them finished by tomorrow night, along with 10 gors.

Dreading assembling the 10 more raiders, 20 more gors, 10 bestigor, 12 centigors, 4 more minotaurs and a Gorebull, and finally 10 harpies, once it all arrives though...

To think I went from a 46-man warrior army to this horde!

Might put some pics of the first couple raiders up when i get home.

Bloodthirster is actually a good option too! Might look into that more, or try and find some larger Reaper/etc models. Wonder if Ultraforge would do...
Conan B
Really do love the new Beastmen models.

First group of the raiders:

IPB Image

And the Beastlord found a new shield. Stanky, maybe one of your weakling soldiers lost it? tongue.gif

sharper1911
Mate this army will look good. Some of the dudes standing on top of the tree stumps look a bit weird maybe due to their height. It would be cool if you made some of them sculking through the trees hugging close to the trunks as they go however, overall I think it will be great.
Conan B
Well that is only the first out of 3 groups, so will try it with the others!

I guess for the ungors skulking in the woods will be good. For the gors I want to try and have some fillers with gors shoving each other aside trying to rush forward.
Conan B
I've been thinking of colours lately.

Basically, since I want mine to really fit the "satyr" look and Beast-Man, that I might go with the "pinkish" skin colour with brown fur.

Alternatively a black shade for skin. I really liked the black Minotaurs on the GW site the other week. But I can't picture my entire army like that, and I don't want my minotaurs to look anything like the ones on the box; that skin is horrible, totally makes the muscles stand out way too much.

I'm torn between a flesh wash or a mud wash. Maybe go a black wash?
sharper1911
Pinkish skin with brown fur and a flesh wash I think would look quite good. I agree that the black mino's would be nice but not for a whole army.

Def stay away from the box style!
Conan B
Oh boy oh boy...

IPB Image

And there is more that didn't get sent yet (annoyingly).

Hopefully before the end of March the parts will arrive for the 12 Centigors and 10 Gorgoyles (Harpies).

Gors are looking good on their stumps, and I'm debating leaving Malagor's wings off as he is just meant as a standard shaman, but I may leave the wings for the possibility of having a game with a special character.

Will probably have to forfiet the paint scores again this coming month, but I hope to at least get started with some. Lots to do before Pilgrimage (if I even am able to get the army together by then, still have the rares to convert).
Conan B
I got Gors...

IPB Image

Another 10 Gors to do and I'll have 2 units of 15.

Gotta get more bases before I can assemble anymore Ungors though.

In a week I will also have all the parts for the side project I've mentioned, so should have that assembled by end of month.

And started looking over spare Minotaur and LotR Troll bits that I could maybe use for a Ghorgon. I just need a body for it, and want it to be a similar shape to the Minotaurs, not just based off a Giant kit armata_PDT_09.gif
Conan B
Well took a break from assembling the army for a bit to put together... AN AWESOME BLOOD BOWL TEAM!

I present to you, in their unpainted form, "The Drakwald Beastie-Boys"!

IPB Image

"The Bull"

IPB Image

"The Bestigor" aka Chaos Warriors

IPB Image

"The Furry Freaks" aka Beastmen with Mutations

IPB Image

and "The Boys" aka Beastmen

IPB Image

IPB Image

Happy with how these guys turned out. Still debating giving two of the Bestigor fist spikes.

The instant I saw the Bestigor in the GW poster the other month I knew I wanted to use them for this, and when I was assembling my WFB Minotaurs I knew they would look awesome as a BB Minotaur.

Thinking I might use another Mino to make the star player Grashnak Blackhoof, and if I want to try and do up Lord Borak the Despoiler and Max Spleenripper.

Either way happy with how the models look. Now have to paint them! Will do the Bestigor up so they stand out from the other Beastmen so I don't end up with complaints at tournaments that they look similar and hard to tell apart.

Will most likely paint these guys before the WFB army. I just don't have time like I did anymore, work is demanding a lot more and I need to put in the time as others rely on me. Chances are I wont have spare time for the WFB army until June, so I will miss Pilgrimage with these guys sad.gif

Will still do what I can when I can. Everything has finally arrived except the remaining bases.
Sometime down the line I'd like to get a Razorgore and an extra chariot to go with the Wargor I bought, and some more Bestigor (the BB team means I don't have 10 to field in a unit!). Also decied I would try and use the Giant kit for my Cygor, and keep looking for a Ghorgon.

Anyway, thought I would throw up the pics!

Will assemble the Harpies and Centigor in the next few weeks maybe and will throw up their pics once the conversions are done.

dedhed
sweet idea for a blood bowl team. Like what you have done.
Barn
Awesome work on the blood bowl team. What box sets did you need to make it all?
seanzala
Cool looking Bloodbowl team mate.
Conan B
Cheers guys,

Sets used were just the new Minotaur, new Bestigors, new Gors, and some Chaos Warrior Marauder shoulder pads I had sitting around.

Annoying thing about the new box sets is the Gors/Bestigor don't have many spare parts when you assemble them. Mino has extra arms and weapoms, maybe a couple horns, but thats it.

Makes it difficult to do the multiple heads/arms, but I happened to have leftovers from when I made that trophy last year.
JPM
That Bloodbowl team looks awesome. Minotaur on Steroids actually fits the BB theme.
Conan B
Decided to add Grashnak Blackhoof to my Blood Bowl team, which played their first game against a new cyborg Necromantic team and won 1-0, with a Beastmen sprouting a 3rd arm at the end of the match!

So, GRASHNAK!!!!!

IPB Image

Still unsure what to do for Max Spleenripper and Lord Borak.

Thinking an Ungor with chainsaw for Max, and a Beastmen wearing Chaos Warrior armour for Borak.

Still can't decide though.

WFB is still on the cards (coffee table is covered with Minotaur/Ungor/Gorgoyle/Centigor parts) but Blood Bowl is providing more entertainment for now.

Gorgoyles (Harpies) will be assembled soon, along with 3 more Minos and a Gorebull.
Conan B
Blood Bowl fever has taken over!

Ogres and Goblins!

1 Team Captain, 1 Thrower, 1 Catcher, 3 Linebackers!

Thrower and Catcher:

IPB Image

The Gnoblars! Usable as Snotlings, AND as a Goblin team!
So far just have the fanatic, will get the Neomic goblin weapons for the others, and will use 2 Ogres as the Trolls; Gnbolars make a tasty mid-game snack!:

IPB Image

And Re-Roll counters, aka the Gnoblars tasked with carrying all the Ogre's junk! I have 6 total:

IPB Image

That should be it for converted BB teams. Back to WFB after the Easter holidays.
