I have decided it is time to freshen the motivation with a new project but I have a number of ideas in development and so decided to be democratic and ask my peers on WAU for their opinions.
What would you like to see me tackle next and why ?
If none of the 4 suggestions rock your boat then feel free to offer alternative.
Project will be for 1200 and 1500 pt lists and I want to use the forums feedback to guide list, theme, conversions, colour schemes etc. just to see where it takes me.
I will be undertaking the project on a unit by unit basis as opposed to my normal 'acquire it all and then get intimidated by to much plastic' approach. I do have a few bits for most of the choices already (except BA and Eldar)

I say a pre-heresey (Space Marines?) team would be awesome. It's good to see the other side of the Chaos teams.

Seems to be lots or imperials army's - but nothing really new - the custodes is kinda interesting, but pre heresy always bursts my fluff bubble.
How about feral world imperial guard - I have always wanted to do an IG army using bretonian men at arms kits, and I think you could pull it off. Bonus is you could also apply some interesting color schemes to it.

+1 to Banes comments, you have lots of power armour at home already.

Exodite eldar. Always been one i have wanted to do. Use a Saim Hann list but counts as with little dinosaurs with riders as jet bikes and bigger ones as falcons and what have you. I think it would be awesome and totaly different/new from most eldar armies.

get your point Nathan and Leigh but I have tried guard lists and just don't enjoy playing them - not to mention the model count and getting all the bits - have found that to do a full on modeling project I need to keep the model count manageable.
Also whilst I get what you mean about 'nothing new' feudal guard has been done plenty of times as well. Or did you mean new for me ?

Oh and for the record the custodes/sisters of silence would be a DH/WH allied army and would be based on the assault on Horus's barge with both the Emperor ( counts as Grey Knight grand master) and Sanguinius (counts as St Celestine) making appearances

Yeah Sanguinius was always a bit of a poncy girl.

agreed and closest I could get to a representation with lists I was working with - certainly not overpowered anyway

and there is that lovely new sanguinor model coming out.
also, it might help people decide if you could do a test mini from each of your choices.

I would love to see you do a unique take on the Blood Angels. Perhaps something a bit darker than the traditonal, perhaps tending toward gothic themes.
There I've sort of combined two of your ideas in one.
Second choice would be exodites.

It would probably but given the custodes I have planned combine bits from 6 different 40K kits, 3 fantasy kits, one non GW kit and some second edition bits I don't really have enough spares at present. Some of the other I have no bits for yet.
Got to admit with blood angels I was thinking of something a little darker - even thought I might cut in half the work of a quartered army and do a halved one - Angels Sanguine.

Exodite Eldar, Alun.........
-Blood Angels will be all over the place with the new codex, (plus you already have a marine Army, which I guess puts out the Templars as well)
-Custodes/sisters of silence is cool, but a lot of other Pre-Heresy armies are out there, I don't see much new ground to go over there

ok - not in position to do test models but here are some inspiration shots from coolminior not of the type of things I am thinking of
Choice One - Black Templers

Choice Two - Blood Angels (Angels Sanguine)

Choice Three

Choice Four

OMG CHOICE 4

LOL - the way you guys are going I am going to be no clearer than I was when I started
I will wind up with equal votes for all.
My preferences at present are the exodites and the custodes mainly because of the modeling potential for conversions and creating something 'original' (although not unique as I know they have been done before (but short of Uberkroots inventions what hasn't been)

eldar exodites are by far the most interesting option

Mar 8 2010, 06:55 PM
Exodites for sure!!!
They will look amazing and i want to do a SOS force once the new =I= dex comes out "shakes fist"

Blood Angels - because I am biased becasue they are finally redoing my chapter.
Whichever you do, Nzarra, it will look awesome as always!

Thanks Luke - it is looking like I may do a small BA (Angels Sanguine) force regardless and if not will certainly get to use some of the new sprues in the Custodes project (which will happen one day regardless as I have most of bits, question is just if it happens now)
Main concern I had with Custodes is from the gameplay perspective - The build for the story and theme I wanted for the assault on Horus's battle barge meant I needed to select units that may not make a particularly effective force on the table. Fun to model and great for comp but not so much on game enjoyment - this was something I discovered with my Adeptus Mechanicus force - although Archon Cryx has since tweeked it into a more effective force but has done so by removing a lot of the restrictions I had imposed for theme.
I think both the BA and the Exodites have the ability to be both a great modeling project and be somewhat effective on the table still - not uber but at least effective.
To be honest I have gone off the Black Templar idea for now so it is really down to a three horse race. Keep the votes coming. Pretty even split so at present think I will still have deciding vote but see how numbers come together.

I'm doing a custodes army (mainly as a hobby project) and was think of using the space wolves rules, in particular LOGAN GRIMNAR so that everything is elite and to cover all the options that the different units can have.
This is what mine look like.

I voted for Blood Angels, and after having seen the models up today in advance orders, i really wish i could have put 2 votes

I'd love to see someone take these on and paint them fantastically, and i think you are the person for it!
Besides, if you already have SM's, adding more from a different chapter just makes Apoc games even easier!
The custodes would be awesome to see, but if it were me i would wait for the apparent new codex for them.

Alun,
I think some of the guys are right, you have enough power armour on the shelf as it is.
I wasnt that crazy about the idea of Exodites though... until I saw those inspiration models you put up, and now I am bloody sold

Ok, 50 votes was my self imposed decision point so the winner is
Exodite Eldar
stay tuned for the next installment. Thanks to all for comments. I have most of bits for the Custodes/Sisters of Silence army so it will happen in the future. And I plan on getting some of the sanguinary gaurd for bits at least. Think there are bits I could use in Eagles, Custodes and Exodite armies.

Well.. If you do medieval style black templars in the future or on the side, the Templars from dragon age look really good.
