Good Day

As per the title, i was just wondering what LotR/WotR events are being run in NSW. I know of Leviathon, MOAB, and Gathering of Might (If Nigels going to try and do it again this year) but besides that i do not think theyare run.

On another note would there be interest in a LotR (400-800pts) or a WotR (750-1500) with in NSW. It would most likely be held at Area 37 club (Campbelltown) or even Paramatta GW and would be happy to run it and provide transport to the venue.

I'd be interested in either. I know a few people who would come as well (maybe 4-5?).

I think the main tournaments are the ones you mentioned, plus cancon, and Nigel tried running WOTR at tumult last year (december) but it didn't work with wotr being so new.

I'd be interested, I think the major problem with attendance is that every time there is a LotR tourney there is also 40k and fantasy being ran so as a standalone it might work. I'd prefer War of the Ring over the Strategy battle game.

As per the War of the ring, would people be interested in limiting the amount of certain things people can take,

I was thinking something along the lines of 2nd 40K:
Eg at least 50% percent of your army must be spent on common.
Up to 50% may be spent on Rare units
Up to 25% (or did people want 50%) may be spent on Epic Heroes and Legendary formations.

Not sure how battle hosts would fit into this as I haven't picked up the book yet and they might actually break certain limitations that I just dreamt up.

I've seen quite a few armies where the Rare choices are very large and are crammed full of epic heroes, and the common units are very small and are only there so as to make their army legal.

If there are more rare companies than common companies (not just more rare formations than common formations) the army is not legal. Eg, If I were playing Goblins, I could not take Druzag, a Balrog, 9 Companies of Gundabad Blackshields, 3 Companies of Goblin Archers and 6 Companies of Wild Wargs. There is 10 rare companies and only 9 Common companies.

Ahh so my local gaming group hasn't read the rules properly, I've never worried as my elves only have the one rare choice whilst all the others are common.

I'll be interested in WotR only and can being another 2-3 players

I would be interested in a small war of the ring tournament. probably would prefer 1 day to 2 day, and not on a weekend that a WFB tourney is on, as I will always pick WFB.

Getting something running would be good I think. Give LotR players in Sydney a chance to meet up and get to know other players.

Myself and one other guy play at our club (Southern Battle Gamers)

Well it looks like theres more in favour for a WotR tournament. I will have a look at running something, properly a one dayer. I just need to see if its possible at our current venue and interest (which by the looks on here 3-4, with potential 5 more). It would be looking at the end of the year, early next

While i dont have many games under my belt, what is the normal point value (1500?) and is it normal straight out of the book missions, or different (ie deployment, objectives)?
kingma15
I think for a tournament, keeping it as simple as possible is the way to go in terms of missions - straight out of the book is the way to go.

I also think 1500 points is the way to go, make it easier for people to get a force ready.

Make sure you advertise in advance, as if I can go I will need to do some serious painting before the tourney. (I can smell another blog coming on)

I'd try 1000, if you're after a small tourney. Otherwise people will bring hard stuff, that IMO makes the game no fun.
BaronMarceldeBastonne
In my gaming group we play 1500, which is the Std 2.5 hr game, this is what we prefer

Tumult will be running again - whether WotR is part of it will be determined by how well MOAB is subscribed to. LotR will run at MOAB. WotR needs to have a head count that makes it work over at least two days. 6+ players should do it. The main issue is splitting the player pool by running both. I'd rather one well subscribed event than two poorly supported ones at the same tournament.

In addition, the status of Battlehosts has yet to be determined. There are more than a few dubious formations in there. I suspect that WotR tournaments have to be approached as being inherently unbalanced - there is no level playing field; the costings are guidelines rather than carefully measured metrics. So long as all participants understand this going in, it should be an enjoyable experience. With that in mind, I'd raffle/ door prize the prize pool, but reward the event "winners" with simple unique trophies. This recognises the winners but gives everyone a fair shot at picking something up.

Nigel

If you put up the players pack for WotR and ask who is willing to come you might get a head count here on this forum. Now that the FAQ is out, there will be less contentious issues you need to "rule" on. Battle Hosts are fine, the balance in WotR is in the ability of every army to take 25% of allies. GW Parra is running a one day event with composition being 25% of the score, if you are concerned with "balance", you can run a proper tourney scoring, as we have requested before, where every one knows how the score is derived, results are transparent and you can include scoring for battle, composition, painting and sports. I believe you will get greater numbers if you run this type of tourney structure for WotR

Put Scott Norwood down for Tumult, Moab - most likely not.

Hey guys,

GW Sydney is running a one day event in June for 1k WOTR if anyone is interested.

I think it is the weekend after the parramatta one Marcelo mentioned, though I believe the Parra tourney is 1200 points instead.

I'm keen to go along to a WOTR tournament.

I think i read the Para one as 800pts.

Regardless, i will hopefully be there.

The Sydney manager told me the parra was 1200 points, though sydney was only doing 1k - i havent visited parra to find out.
AJenko
May have uped it, im just looking at the GW Event calander.

Surpreme Comander
- July 18th - 800 points, War of the Ring
BaronMarceldeBastonne
I'm going to the GW Parra WotR 1 day tourney this month, its 1200pts
AJenko
What date/s?
Cost?
Also are there any requirments (ie. Painted force, objectives).

May came along depending on time and spaces.

I was considering running one on the Central Coast (Central Coast Corsairs represent).

A small one day, 400-ish pt SBG.

I'm just not sure how much interest there would be given theres not many players on the coast....

Well I don't live on the coast (down on the murray actually), but I do get up there sometimes to see my cousin who lives near newcastle, who is just getting into lotr, and we both play sbg. So i reckon, depending on the date and exactly where it's held, you could count on the two of us to be there. biggrin.gif Still, two players does not a tournament make... It's a shame so few people play sbg. it's a great game.
R3PLIKATE
SBG is great. I love it so much. If I held it probably later this year. We operate out of Tuggerah Hall, its quite literally like 2 minues off the freeway, just around the corner from Westfields. So its easy to get to. People from Sydney would take at most an hour travelwise. Likewise those from Newie.

I'll have to put some thought into it.
Isilduin
Great location (thank God for Google Maps biggrin.gif ). I reckon you could drum up enough people to run it, if you're keen. I'd be happy to help with anything if you need it. Good luck.
R3PLIKATE
I'll probably put it off until next year. I have this HSC thingo I need to win at first =P
Isilduin
Haha yeah, it's VCE for me but I understand the feeling. Well, drop us a line whenever you're ready. Good luck this year.
