Basically I have recently built up a Van Saar gang for this strange game I have never played before, Necromunda.

Long time Bloodbowl-er this is one of my first moves into wargaming (any game that needs more than 16 figures per team is just crazy!)

I have used some Cadian Guard figs for these guys. I picked these as the major domo of the Necro league is a hardcore wisiwig guy when it comes to weapons and stuff. I personally hate the idea of having a beautifully painted fig and then hacking it's hand off to replace the Stub pistol that it started the campaign with and replacing the laspistol he just picked up.

To stop this I have created a fully modular force where the only constant is the figure's legs and base. They are joined by rare earth magnets at the hips (legs -> torso) and then the shoulder (torso -> arm) as well as the neck (torso -> head)

This allows me to swap individual weapons, heads (for photovisors/respirators) and even toso armour with very little difficulty (though I can't think of anything to use for Mesh armour?)

Ok, in the next post i will show my roster and in the following ones I'll post some fluffy pics (and yes they are greyscaled to not only imply night vision but also coz i haven't painted them)

Feel free to cover me in praise or heap scorn on me.

Mmm, some well dressed lads having been spotted patrolling Van Saar territories in the past week. Investigation from Delaque info-smiths has revealed some basic details of their fighting roster.

Lead by:
Johnny Alpha. Never seen without his Chainsword, Plasma Pistol and wry grin. For some reason this stone cold killer keeps his eyes hidden behind his photo-visor even while sleeping.

Leader with Chainsword, Plasma Pistol, Photo-Visor . (120+25+25+10=180)

Heavy Support:
Beta Max. A silent man of unusual determination. For the most time he will let his Heavy Stubber speak for him. Has been known to try to light tabbac-sticks with his back-up las-pistol.

Heavy with Heavy Stubber, Laspistol. (60+120+15 = 195)

Quartermaster:
Gamma Ray. A sociable and resourceful keeper of armaments whose second greatest joy is covering unsuspecting vermin with superheated plasma. His first being winning at cards, though more than a couple have felt the wrath of his "liddle frand" when caught cheating. He insists a las-pistol shot to the thigh often prevents future problems of that kind without maiming for life.

Heavy with Plasmagun, Laspistol (60+70+15 = 145)

Rank and File:
Delta Blue, Rho Dan and Pi Eater seem almost identical with their regulation Lasguns in hand and Swords at the hip. The only difference noted so far is that Pi Eater is slightly chubbier, Rho Dan seems to like jumping from elevated positions and Delta Blue is the only one who can carry a tune without a bucket.

Ganger with Lasgun and Sword (50+25+10 = 85) x 3 (255)

Omicron Prime is noticeable for three main things, his preference of a Shotgun, his delight in throwing grenades at the slightest provocation and his habit of giggling to himself while the grenades go off.

Ganger with Shotgun with Manstopper rounds and Frag Grenades (50+20+5+30 = 105)

New Recruits:
The newest recruits have been taken from the pool of Van Saar hopefuls and seem barely able contain their desire to discharge their weapons. Despite, or maybe because of, this Johnny Alpha has issued Nu Jack, Lamda Slaughter and Xi Zee Laspistols in an attempt to familiarise them with real weaponry during their training.

Juve with Laspistol x 3 (25+15= 40) x 3 (120)

Questions still to be answered: Where do they get their snappy clothes and good gear from? Does it have anything to do with the recent negotiations of PDF supply contracts? Why does Johnny refuse to take off his visor? Will Rho Dan ever buy a safety clip for when he will inevitably fall?

Dear Client #145233,

Firstly let me thank you for signing up for our new initiative in information delivery, the Delaque-Mail Intelligence Reporting system, or DMIR.

While we have been able to sound out the likely configuration of of the gang known as "Alpha One" the majority of this is hearsay and speculation. We pride ourselves on the high quality and timeliness of our information gathering and as such have been relentlessly been infiltrating the Van Saar territories to provide you with new information.

We have recently been able to take photographic evidence of some members of the gang. With time we should be able to categorised all members and send through the dossier to you as requested.

Here is the first image we have received from our agent. Due to the sensitive nature of this task and your requirement of total secrecy the quality of the images are not the best.

IPB Image

Here we see what looks to be the leader, Johnny Alpha. At the moment this is only speculation but he fits the description perfectly. Still no reasoning can be given as to why he wears the photo-visor. The image does not show it well but Johnny was in a clearly lit environment and there was no reason for him to be wearing them. This may indicate previous eye trauma or a sensitivity to light, though that is unusual in a Van Saar.

The only other relatively clear image we have been able to capture is this.

IPB Image

We believe this may be Omicron Prime. There was no obvious sign of grenades but the shotgun combined with the fact that the target was muttering incoherently to himself leads our field agent to believe he matches the description enough to consider him Omicron unless a more likely candidate appears.

You will notice that they are wearing what appears to be PDF uniforms. Though as per your request we have investigated and while there have recently been 3 raids on PDF equipping stations within the past year, none of them have claimed to have lost clothing. The most common thefts are easily transportable and saleable items like munitions, explosives and food stores. We are following up possible leads as to why and how they are equipping themselves this way and what quality their apparent armour is.

Dear Client #145233,

As per your request we have infiltrated further into the "Alpha One" compound and have photo evidence of the remaining squad members.

IPB Image

Here we have Beta Max. It is an unknown Van Saar variant of Heavy Stubber that he wields and we have not been able to see it in action to advise on its potency. Scarification on face consistent to munitions explosion. Possibly quiet not by choice but may actually be mute.

IPB Image

We captured this image of Gamma Ray while he was running the new recruits through an assault course. The operative in the field claims he saw Gamma charge at full speed, up hill before destroying a target vehicle. Admittedly there were two other vehicles on the range so it is possible it was a very lucky miss.

IPB Image

As stated before, the gangers Delta Blue, Rho Dan and Pi Eater seem rather interchangeable at this point. There is no clear indicators as to any strengths or weaknesses amongst them.

IPB Image

Here we have the three Juve recruits Nu Jack, Lamda Slaughter and Xi Zee on a foraging exercise. Much like the gangers there is little to differentiate other than Lamda's insistence on travelling first and Nu Jack's strange pistol style. Despite holding his laspistol on a bizarre angle he manages to keep up with the others at the shooting range.

Unfortunately we haven't heard back from our field operative in over 4 hours. His last photo-dump contained a strange image that concerns us.

They look pretty good, I think - intentionally granifying your photos is an odd choice tho!

I like the juve sthat can upgrade their laspistols to lasguns when they reach ganger status.

In practice there's not that much weapon swapping as long as you follow these simple rules:

- Never buy Stub Guns
- Never buy close combat weapons that aren't swords

90% of conversions involve cutting off stub guns to replace with better guns, or anythings to replace with swords. In fact we're on the verge of jsut saying "All Stub Guns are Autopistols instead" in our campaign. We haven't quite reached "Sword-o-rama" as we've instituted a "No rerolling a reroll" policy (suggested in the FAQ for the new rulebook, although we don't use everything in that FAQ).

In fact a simpled rule might just be "Give everything an autopistol and sword allready" wink.gif

Oh, plus hand flamers.

I think the grain touch is to make it look like an intelligence report, its a nice touch IMO.
I used to convert figures, but these days I'd rather take a rusty jewelery saw to my left hand (I need the right for painting wink.gif) than damage my classic Escher models after the amount of trouble I went through procuring them.

Cheers for the comments guys. I was worried I wouldn't get any responses at all.

Yeah played my first game of it last night and thinking of replacing the back up pistol of my Heavy Stubber guy to a Stub Pistol (he is usually far from the battle and can survive with a Stub Pistol as protection if he fails an ammo roll) and getting a Hand Flamer on a juve just for those first few experience points.

Cheers Zippy, that was exactly what I was aiming for. The grainy night-vision look for a grim-dark future.
