I went to start a Mordheim warband to play at the local GW or to try to find a well maintained, well restricted campaign in brisbane... anyway, I was asking what races I could play etc, and decided on elves... the GW guy pointed out models and printed me off the rules for shadow warriors... fortuneatly shadow warriors are the models I choose too so I was in luck, it seemed that everything clicked into place.
So I go looking for advice on a good build for a starting warband and I come across stuff saying that Elves arent even a part of Mordheim anymore.
wtf?
Is this true?

Elves of any variety are an unofficial warband that tends to be heavily disliked by experienced Mordheim players for how many super good advantages they get. To put a long story short, they are crazy Mary Sue overpowered compared to the official warbands.
If you check out
http://www.mordheimer.com/ the warbands tab there breaks down the different bands into Official, Unofficial and Experimental. If your campaign group uses the full list of official warbands, then that is the list they will be using.

There's nothing wrong with hiring elven rangers for your warband..
But a shadow warrior warband is just brutal..

With heroes each with starting maximum WS 5 and minimum WS4, shooting while hiding and the most powerful henchmen in the game. I dont blame them for making it unofficial.
Its like that Maneaters warband! WTF is up with that?

There are lists to Wood Elves and High Elves as well, if you are interested.
ProPain, if you don't want the models any more, let me know how you want for them. My daughter wants to play Elves.

Just to put it out there.
Yes, Shadow Warriors are overpowered and are no longer an official status warband.
But at the end of the day, it's whatever your group decides to run with. If your fellow games are happy for you to run Shadow Warriors, then run them.
There are a lot of interesting warbands out there that don't have the 'official' status printed on them. So it's up to the group as a whole to decide on how restrictive they want to be.
But I guess to be cautious of even if your group do allow Shadow Warriors, most groups don't. So if you ever branch out to other Mordheim playing groups, you can probably expect to not be able to play them.

+1 to this.
Many moons ago I was part of a campaign that had a Dark Elf gang in it. Even though they were quick and possibly OP they were still fun to play against. Dark Elves finished bottom of the rankings at the end.

I think theres alot to be said for shadow warriors being viable in a group. They will usually dance around dwarfs and undead minions, but skaven and many humans will be able to 'herd' the elves into favourable combats and kill them off.
Everything has its place, even if its just to help someone learn the rules while avoiding total pantsings and keeping runaway dwarf and lizardmen lists in check.
Cheers, Ronin
