Well, here goes. One thread to capture all of my painted abominations !

This is going to be a mix of stuff I've just painted and stuff that I painted a while ago, just to document the whole army.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

I DO intend to base them properly and matte varnish them all. They wont be the shiny Eldar from planet billiard table forever.

To kick off - my very first HQ - just finished and varnished this weekend:

Hey man, blending in the eye's looks great, and it's a very neat paintjob

good job armata_PDT_37.gif

Ooh. Ooh! Nicely done!
Gloss makes those gems really sweet, man.

And although I'm notorious for not following this advice: try paint on glossy stuff on the things that are meant to be shiny, and keep the matt spray further back for the rest of the model.

I have lots of shiny Orks by not listening to this advice! tongue.gif

But I like it man.

Asurmen wash on the robes yeah? Anything else funky to it?

Or was it camera flash? Oops. Probably was.

Thanks guys.

Like I said ... they're getting matted eventually, and I'll go back and pick out the gems in gloss smile.gif

Asurmen wash, pshaw !! That's Ultramarine Blue layered down to Moody Blue in the crevasses and up through Enchated Blue to Space Wolf Grey on the high points. It's then washed with a mix of blue ink, glaze medium, and water. The flash then takes away most of the depth and subtlety sad.gif

That and the eyes were my first attempt at layering (or whatever you call the thing where you do thin coats that are a bit transparent).

I like it, can't wait to see it matte varnished. I think it'll make a huge difference, and allow your bending to show more.

Yeah. I didn't read it. I cheated and just looked at the pictures. biggrin.gif
Sorry.

That's embarrassing - I blame my crappy work monior's dim low res picture! I feel bad now.

When I get ADSL back in 2 days, I shall look again from my home PC man.
But yes, it ;looks smooth as (from what I can see.)

Again - sorry!

No wuckers, a good wash job probably looks better than my marginal layering smile.gif

I really like it. Reminds me of the 2nd ed Eldar Codex. armata_PDT_34.gif

You know you want to base it with Goblin Green
radle
Did someone say 2nd ed ?

I have five shades of green, but no goblin green sad.gif

Three generations of Banshee exarchs to go with the 2nd ed troops!

Also, here's my first attempt with Instant Mold - a base for my Discworld miniatures, and a test cloak for the Autarch:

Avengers stage 2 by xam dam, on Flickr

Latest Avengers work in progress - my second attempt at layering rather that the old ink and drybrush or edge highlight. It seems to be going well - using pre-mixed colours and thinning them a LOT.

Wondering if it still needs a final thin highlight or whether that's too far.

I think it looks fine as it is mate, the colours are very vibrant.

The old eldar sculpts look great, got any of the scorpions? The 2nd ed sculpts were definately the best ones.
radle
Thanks. They're not quite as bright in real Life, but I might leave them be for the moment and reassess once they're otherwise finished.

I do have the old scorps, but not overly proud of the paint job - they are between the old banshees and the new banshees in terms of quality. I might try to dig them out for some photos tonight. I've got pretty much all of the old 2nd Ed models.

Added some more detail and finished the blue.

Love the colours, nice work.

Avengers look great Mike! The highlights are spot on.

Have you considered using a matte varnish for your minis?

How goes the MRH90?

Thanks guys. I reckon they're about the best I've ever painted.

I've considered it. Planned to do it. Bought the varnish. Have so far completely failed to actually commit airbrush to mini yet!

MRH model is done. Will send you a link to the modeling diary.

Dire Avengers look good, I'm still in the newbie territory when it comes to being any good at blending.

Look for a tutorial by les burley from awesomepaintjob.com on 'Seamus avatar of dread' that helped me a lot, especially the bit about the hat.
