Hi all,
I started this army about six (?) months ago and was mainly keeping updates over on the Bolter & Chainsword under this thread. However I have had a few people ask me to start one on WargamerAU as well, so here it is. As I said it was started about six months ago and so a fair bit of work has already gone into it and I am actually pretty close to completing the model build. I suck at painting and I am not prepared to destroy Forge World models by my pathetic attempts and so the entire army is being painted by Korocite. The background fluff and suchlike is still being worked upon and will be updated latter as it is fleshed out but the force composition is as follows: UPDATED 18/03/13 Legion Crusade HQ 1 Praetor in PA (Boarding Shield and Paragon Blade) 1 Praetor/Centurion in TDA 1 Centurion in PA 1 Champion Consul in TDA 1 Primaris Medicae Consul in TDA 1 Chaplain Consul in TDA 3 Chaplain Consuls in PA 1 Forge Lord in TDA (WIP) 5 man Command Squad (WIP) Elite 2 Apothecaries in PA 1 Techmarine in PA 4 Servitors (WIP) 2 Dreadnoughts 1 Contemptor Dreadnought 3 Rapier Laser Destroyer Battery 10 Destroyer Marines (WIP) 20 Terminators 10 Veteran Marines Troops 60 Tactical Marines 20 Breacher Siege Marines (WIP) 20 Recon Marines (WIP) 10 Tactical Support Marines 20 Assault Marines Fast Attack 6 Outrider Bikes 3 Attack Bikes 5 Skyhunter Jetbikes (WIP) 3 Landspeeders 10 Seeker Marines Heavy Support 10 Heavy Support Marines 3 Predators (1 WIP) 3 Vindicators (2WIP) 1 Assault Ram 1 Landraider 2 Whirlwinds Transports 7 Rhinos 2 Drop Pods 1 Lucius Drop Pod 1 Dreadclaw Lords of War 1 Malcador Assault Tank 1 Typhon/Cerberus (WIP) Ad Mech Allies HQ 1 Castellan Reductor (WIP) 4 Servitors (WIP) Troops 10 Thallax (WIP) Transports 3 Ad Mech Landraiders (WIP Lords of War 1 Warhound Titan The following pages will be pretty pic heavy.... As advuised the majority of the vehicles have already been completed except for the Drop Pods which I am still needing to obtain. They have been painted and weathered and ready to roll over some heretics.
Photos of vehicles before weathering (ignore the IG vehicles at the back, they are part of the IG force which I am putting together who will be on the same Crusade fluffwise): ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by Dono1979: Feb 11 2011, 08:23 AM -------------------- |

Initiates
The initiates were/are the bulk of the army, 50 models all up and all of them Forge World Mk II or III, it was not fund clipping, soaking and washing each part. Didnt realise resin was so slow in the prep stages, but hoping the end results will be worth it. The plan was for the Mk II to represent the 2 five man Penance squads who are fire support. Effectively these guys have dishonoured themselves in some way and have been ordered to serve penance and are not permitted to bring a CCW weapon to the field and must refrain from entering melee and thus are denied the chance for glory. There was some minor modifications needed for the Heavy Weapon guys in regards to backpacks and arms, the bolters however worked fine. The Mk III models are the Crusader Initiates. Basically they are all armed as normal with a Black Templar Chainsword and Black Templar Bolt Pistol except for the 'serg' who is armed with an oversized Chainsword held in a power fist which counts as a Power weapon (my first real attempt for a minor conversion). Whenever there were multiple load out options I have tried to magnetise the models rather than building and using multiple entire models. The first THIRD of the clipped parts for the Initiates: ![]() The first couple of Crusaders completed, this was when I was going with standard BT Power Sword as the Power Weapons, also hardly any of them were wearing shoulder pads as I was trying to make moulds of some BT symbols (which failed badly): ![]() ![]() One of the first Bolters put together, again no shoulders: ![]() Now with the pads: ![]() ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by Dono1979: Feb 11 2011, 08:52 AM -------------------- |

Completed a lot more of the Initiates at this stage and had opted to use some Maxmini products to add a bit of a difference to the models. Shoulder pads have also been attached as I have given up trying to do stamps and will go with transfers/decals

The Neophytes were always a problem. I wanted to have them but could not find a suitable way of building them that looked like a Black Templar Neophyte, and not just a Space Marine Scout painted in BT colours. The immediate thoughts were to use BT arms in place of the scout ones.
This however left the major problem of the heads (which I hate) and so the search began. I was originally planning on linking the BT force to my Death Korps IG army fluffwise and so thought maybe I could use DKOK heads or something similar with masks. ![]() ![]() ![]() The proportions were all wrong and it just didnt work. I tried using the Pig Iron militia heads but they were even worse. So I went with the Scout torso and the Black Templar arms to give me an idea and kept looking for a head: ![]() ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by Dono1979: Feb 11 2011, 09:27 AM -------------------- |

The solution to the Neophytes came from Maxmini again, their Steam Knight helmets grabbed me for a look and one of the Barbuet style helmets really stood out. With the Mk III helmets looking very medieval I though to link the neophytes using a medieval style helmet as well rather than the fluff of the linked IG force. Which was a good call in the end as I decided to sell my DKOK shortly after.
I ordered some of the Barbuet and also a few of the other style helmets for use for the Sword Brethren and EC. however more on those ones latter, but the resulting Neophytes were exactly what I was after. In addition instead of giving them chainswords I decided to give them just standard swords, using the BT Power Swords (which I had heap left over from not using them on the regular Initiates) and shaved all the power cables off: ![]() ![]() ![]() I am also planning on using combat shotugns from maxmini for some Shotgun neophytes, still waiting on those to arrive (only ordered them a short time ago). All of the Crusader initiates have been completed and sent off to be painted, as have 20 of the neophytes and about half of the fire support initiates. Still waiting on Shotguns for the ten additional neophytes and another packet of Mk II Power Armour for the rest of the fire support initiates.
The two test minis for the paint scheme were completed and Korocite sent them through: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I love the results, the battle wearing is perfect and the crimson eyes really give them a fanatical nearly evil look. The Neophytes have turned out perfectly. This post has been edited by Dono1979: Feb 11 2011, 09:43 AM -------------------- |

The Techmarine was always going to be a bit of a wierd one. I wanted one to complete the fluff and simply to have one there if needed, but I have never actually managed to fit one into my list or really ever wanted to field one.
With the recent changes to the BT FAQ the Techmarine was changed a little and is becoming a bit of common IC buff in Crusader squads so I thought I should go ahead and build one. I dont like the current models, so I thought I would kit bash one. Using the servo harness from a metal techmarine, the torso from the vehicle sprue, the legs and arms from the FW character upgrade and some weapons and heads from Maxmini, I managed to put one together that I am happy with and magnetised the entire thing. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() -------------------- |

Sword Brethren Terminators
With the special models being used for the Power Armour marines, I wanted to try and give a bit of a special look to the Terminators as well, considering they are often a centre piece to Black Templar armies. To do this I tried to make them a little pre-heresy by using some maxmini shoulders and converting the heads to a grey knight style with some chopping and drilling. All arms are going to be magnetised to allow any weapon loadout. The power weapon is again going to be one from maxmini whilst the Thunder Hammers are power glaives with large spikes. In addition I have modified the Assault cannons with an extended barrel, unfortunately all these were sent off before I could get some photos. Here are the initial prototypes of the shoulders and heads: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I am putting together another squad of five and so will get some pics of them with the weapon loadouts in the coming weeks. -------------------- |

Sword Brethren Power Armour:
These guys are the bane of my modeling. For models that will most likely never see the board (because theya re so difficult to fit into a list) but they are so vital to the army fluff wise, I wanted to make something special but not get too carried away. I am still working on these guys to try and strike the balance and find something that I like. The current combination is some Sword Brethren metal models, mixed in with some kit bashed models using the Commander cloak back with a Black Templar Tabard front torso. using the BT heads, shoulder pads and various arms. I was originally using maxmini heads for them but they just didnt seem to fit, they looked a little... flat? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Lots more work on this guys to come. -------------------- |
