Evening all!

So, between my other projects and uni I've also decided to paint up a friends chaos space marine army. The army will be based around the colour scheme for the oracles of change in the CSM codex, but modified slightly to colour match with a couple of older models that are in the army.

The first batch of models to be painted are a squad of 5 terminators, a sorcerer in terminator armour, 5 possessed, a landraider, 2 rhinos and 2 defilers. Of these, the termies and lord are done and the rest are all base coated and ready for detailing work. The project has also been a good chance to get my airbrush out and have a play with it

Most of the models were already assembled when I got my hands on them so it was straight down to the painting biggrin.gif

But enough of that! On to the photos!

And his familiar

And a comparison between the scheme and the colour match model

And an idea of the rhinos and other tanks

So, hopefully some more details on the tanks in the near future, Hope you like!

I agree with Fulgrum, the defiler does look very cool. But I also love the work you have done on the terminators especially the familar for the Sorcerer Lord and his book of power smile.gif

Loving the old Space Crusade Chaos Lord, I loved those old chaos marines. I miss the style of their armour, wish there was more of it in the newer CSM models.

Ok!

I promise I haven't completely forgotten about this diary! I have however been ridiculously busy with uni, although hopefully will be able to find a little time over the next few weeks to make a bit of progress!

First off thanks for the feedback guys and sorry its been so long between posts!

Although I've been crazy busy I have managed to do a little work on this army in the last few months. Firstly, the defilers are pretty much done, although they may get bases later on.

IPB Image

Have also done a little squad of possessed

IPB Image

IPB Image

And finally, a little experiment in washes. One squad of my friends army was already painted when he got it and he asked me if I could have a play with them and try and improve the paint job a little. Several coats of various washes and a few touch ups later and here's how they turned out...

After:

Behold the power of washes!

Anyway, hopefully I can make a bit of progress over the holidays before uni raises its ugly head again...

Nice. I'm liking how the defilers and possessed are turning out. (I have a fondness for those plastic possessed and you are really doing them justice.) And the bezerker rescue is inspiring. Maybe some of my older orks can be saved after all.

Lovely job on the rescue of the beserkers and I am really liking the possessed. All in all very nice work on the army so far.

Washes are fantastic! It's one of the things I really wont to have a play around with and see what i can do. I've seen some fantastic effects that people have managed to get with washes and its something I'd love to get the hang of properly!

Cheers! I'm really pleased with the way the bezerkers have turned out. The army needs another squad of about the same size that will need to be painted from scratch so the plan is to mix them in together. Hopefully once they're mixed up it should be pretty hard to tell that half of them were rescued so to speak!

Planning on getting the airbrush out this weekend to get the rest of the infantry sprayed as well as do some touch ups on the landraider (I swear the sponsons couldn't move when I first sprayed it but apparently now they do, leaving a wonderful lascannon shaped grey patch when they swivel...)

Ok! I'm back and on the upside it hasn't been nearly as long as last time!

So, I've finally managed to get some stuff done! Firstly, my lovely girlfriend gave me a new airbrush for our anniversary and I've had a chance to to give it a go. So far the airbrush has been fantastic, much smoother paint flow then the last and doesn't clog up as badly either. Still getting the hang of it but so far so good!

After throwing a good afternoon at it I managed to get the rest of the army basecoated using the airbrush. Since then I've been working away to try and get a few more things finished. First up is the remaining berzerkers, 17 in total to bring the army's count up to 30.

Unfortunately the camera has been letting the team down badly and out of dozens and dozens of shots, these were the closest there was to useable armata_PDT_05.gif

Fortunately the rest of the stuff for this army should be pretty easy, especially given that its all basecoated. So, just the detailing to go. The vehicles are also done and just need some weathering. I've got some time over the next few days so I'm hoping to make some major progress, fingers crossed!

And I'm back!

Firstly I apologize for the horrible lack of updates, especially after being so confident of regular updates armata_PDT_04.gif

On the up side, I've been able to make a fair bit of progress on the army. Firstly, the old school CSM are finished. I'm actually quite proud of these guys. Five of the squad were already painted and my friend wanted me to try and colour match the rest of the squad to these first five.

The guy on the left below is one of the originals while the guy on the right is one that I painted.

IPB Image

And here's the whole squad

IPB Image

Also finished are the vehicles. First up, the land raider

IPB Image

I'm watching you...

IPB Image

IPB Image

And Rhinos

IPB Image

And all together

IPB Image

And finally, some old school oblitorators. I hate to say it but I really don't like these models (they look like they stole their armour from a bunch of orks), but there done now so I don't need to worry about them anymore!

IPB Image

Still to go are 10 lesser demons, a deamon prince and 10 plague marines. However, all of these are underway and some just need their bases done. So, I'm hopeful of getting the army finished very soon (yeah, like we've never heard that before...)!

I love the way you've used newer painting techniques like washes on some quite old models. I always though those Berzerker models were really lame but painted like that they're sweet as. The older models have that Gothic appeal to them that's missing in all the newer kits.

Cheers guys, really appreciate the feedback!

Thanks Naidan, glad you like and sorry I've been so slow with the updates!

Thanks TyRaide, its been really interesting working on the older models and heaps of fun, the old-school CSM squad was a particular favorite! Glad you like the bezerkers as well, I had them on the table top for a game a few weeks ago and I was really pleased with how they were looking

And yes, all hail the supreme power of devlan mud!!!

Look! A quick update!

And a big update! In fact, the army is now finished!

Had some nice weather today so took the advantage to get some snaps of the army.

Defiliers - these have had a few minor updates, including the bases

The whole army!

And the plague marines. A huge thanks has to go to JCN here. I originally didn't have any shoulder pads for these guys and JCN not only provided shoulder pads for them, but did an amazing job of sculpting plague marine and nurgle symbols all over them!

IPB Image

IPB Image

So, that's about it for this army! It's been great fun to do and an interesting challenge, especially trying new techniques such as lots of washes and airbrushing. Overall I'm really happy with the result and I think they look great on the table.

My friend will pick them up soon and has already asked me if I'd do another army for him! This time it's to be the ultra-smurfs and they'll probably just jump onto this log once I get around to them, although it won't be until november after I'm done with exams.

So, it's been a blast and always great to tick off an army!
