Stressing this is only rumour at this stage, but there's a thread on Warseer where an individual claims GW have told a certain popular UK Independant Retailler that they cant ship stuff GW stuff over here anymore.

Suffice to say my GW buying days would be all but over if I only have the option of paying Oz RRP, I just cant afford the local pricing on an army-wide scale (the occasional centrepiece model sure, but that'd be it) and Id expect a lot of people feel the same way.

Surely the folks from GW HQ realise that this wont represent an increase in profits, and that higher prices dont direclty translate to more profits?

GW stuff is already pretty hard to justify buying compared to what else is avaliable. This would be, literally, the final nail in the coffin.

Hope it isn't true, every so often I seriously consider picking up a few models from them.

If this happened either I'd throw in the towel and just go completely over to PP or arrange with some of the UK retailers to just list stuff on ebay for me to buy. Pretty simple. tongue.gif

its effectively a 30+% price rise.

All the complaining that happens over a partial range 5% rise, a complete range 30% rise will kill me off.

Might be time for a US distributor to start arranging Aus shipping. The US$ is rubbish atm

IF true then that is pretty crazy – are they really losing enough OZ customers overseas to ‘justify’ this??? – I know a lot of people here buy from indi’s both here and overseas but I am betting that a majority (like 90%+) of GW sales in OZ happen in OZ

I'm not sure they could legally control that?

Frankly if they stopped bending us over (and our local retailers) they wouldn't need to try and control it.

It's pretty insulting that US prices are half what ours are and the AU$ is so much stronger.

Good thing I just bought the last stuff to finish my main army, and have enough other figures to last a lifetime.

Legally is a company even able to stipulate selling terms of a product?

Wasn't there a similar thing to this with the discounters and Flames of War? With the company trying to add particular sales conditions?

Depends I think. Rules in other countries might be different from those in Australia. In Australia you're not allowed to divide up territories with your competitors. I don't know if the law in the UK is the same.

the FOW issue with the big whirlpool was nothing to do with shipping to australia.

I was to do with discounting too much - guys at FOW were not happy with the extra discounts the retailer did so cut them off.

Thing is FOW just recently lowered aus prices - GW should take note.

The majority of players I know buy almost exclusively from retailers other then GW or second hand from eBay. Compared to other ranges GW is ridiculous $62 for 10 marines if you want a force consisting of two tacs with rhinos and a hq your looking at $250

Second hand you can get a lot more then that for $200 the same as buying from the uk or us.

If they are worried about the bottom line being damaged by people ordering from over seas the most simple solution (the same as retailers like eb games have found since the playstation ect is now region free) is to stop blatantly ripping off the Australian market.

It seems entirely possible to stop retailers selling over here. It's quite difficult to buy various things from Amazon and have them shipped over here as an example.

It's getting beyond a joke what GW wants for a box of mans these days.

If this rumour is true, I can see GW doing more damage to themselves than good in the long run.

Something about telling someone how to run their own business and restricting their customers freedom to purchase from whoever they want leaves a bad taste in anyone's mouth.

I just meant in the same vain of applying 'conditions of sale' to your product.

Saying 'you cant sell our product for less than x below RRP' really doesn't seem too far away from 'you can't sell/ship our products to customers in x location'.

Isn't this true of EVERY marketing decision GW makes? At least regarding Aus?

Many industries have been getting away with this for years. Hell, the entire "region protection" on DVD's is to enforce exactly this! It's probably not really legal but also there's nothing you can do about it. and GW is a pretty minor offender compared to others.
