payments ASAP please

Hey guys, here's something for the hobbyists! Privateer Press Studio & Freelance Painter Meg Maples is coming to Australia for CanCon, and is looking at a stop in Adelaide. We need to get around 20 people for the class to go ahead. Note it's nothing specific to Warmachine, this is a painting class that any miniature painter of any system should find fantastic.

Meg's website, Arcane Paintworks

Take note this is NOT specific to any system, and is a worthwhile class for anyone who gives half a damn about painting.

Payment Details
Payments can be made through paypal to fieldarchy@gmail.com
All classes bar Canberra are $205 US DOLLARS. Please ensure you select US DOLLARS, not australian dollars. Paypal will convert it all over for you. Please note your userID if you are listed by it below, so we know who to mark as paid. If you see your user id not marked (in italics) as paid, please let us know.

Classes
Attendees are listed by interest, italic'd if paid. Classes with links in the title (Canberra, Melbourne & Sydney) are considered to be confirmed.

CanCon
Cancon day 1- Assuming CGS provide a space, Meg will give a talk and ppt on painting. This will be free and open to the public.

Day 2- There will be two 'Painting with Meg' non-classes. These will run 4 hours each. Paint will be provided (P3), the rest is BYO. Registrations will be via CGS as if it were a WM/H tournament. Max of 8 people p/session. Again - These are NOT classes.

27/1/2014 09:30am 10
Location:Defiant Gaming Unit 4 7-11 Botany Street, Phillip. Full day lesson $110 US DOLLARS, Tickets may be transferred, but will not be refunded.

Things to bring with you should include:

Personal lamp

Brushes (Have a W&N Series 7 (Standard) size 2 and a Raphael 8404 size 3, for 2 brush blending. I'll show you how to do detail work with a size 2 as well. I don't use a smaller brush for 90% of my work)

Palettes (I recommend dry for 2 brush blending but wet palettes are welcome too)

cleaning tools such as diamond files, xacto/scalpel, clippers, super glue

something to affix your mini too (such as pill bottle or spray can lid, I'll bring the double sided tape)

Any paint other than P3 paint

Pen and Sketchbook (if you don't already have a paint journal we will start one the day of class! I'll teach y'all how to take notes in it and let you guys leaf through mine)

Anything else you may need for your personal comfort. This could mean a lot of things but for instance some people use opti-visors but I don't so that wouldn't necessarily be on my list. However, for someone who may need it, definitely bring it with!

I do recommend having a water bottle with you and make sure you have a non-sugary drink. This is important for 2 brush blending. Since you hold one of the brushes in your mouth and run it through your saliva frequently you want to make sure you drink water or drinks that are not sticky. The sugar wreaks havoc on the bristles.

Well I'd sure love to attend. Would need to work out how to get to Adelaide for it, but yeah, consider this an expression of interest.

Spoke with Maria (realm of legends) last night and she has cross posted to OzPainters. Similar to Adelaide if there is sufficient interest (20+) Meg has mentioned she will try and visit other places as well.

So far tentative locations are Adelaide and Canberra (she will also be at Cancon) but other can be included as well with interest.

ps. I see meg lurking biggrin.gif

QUOTE

I like to tell a little story about the last man who was in a sword fight with Caine. During the fight he was heard commenting on how crappy a blade it was, old and busted, not cared for, and on and on. Finally he asked Caine what its name was. Caine grinned and said "Sword." and then shot the guy 4 times.

I'd like to hear more about the CanCon connection personally. Is there a class planned there too?

I've just approved the latest batch of new accounts, so she can post now as well. Hi Meg! smile.gif

Great to see some more painting events appearing at conventions over here - they were my favourite part of the US cons.

Missing out on all of those awesome mini painting seminars was easily the biggest disappointment I had about not attending AUSCON.

Hey everyone!

I am so excited to come to Oz in January and meet all of my fine Aussie gaming and painting brethren and sistahs! And I'm so touched that so many people want me to come and teach classes. It just blows my mind!

Right now the plan is to hit Canberra, Sydney and Adelaide. Here's what we have planned and are working on:

CANCON 2014

An 8 hour painting class held at a local gamestore in Canberra Australia. We will go over a bunch of topics from paint consistency, color theory, painting faces and hair, tutorials on metallics, painting fur, and whatever else we can manage to cram into our 8 hour session.

This is a hands on workshop open to all skill levels and is very much an open format where people can ask questions and request specific demos.

Please bring a mini that is assembled and primed so we can dive right into painting! We'll have a full set of P3 paints for people to use at class but you will need to bring your own set of brushes and a lamp if you would like additional light.

If you would like to learn 2 brush blending please bring a Winsor & Newton Standard Series 7 size 2 and a Raphael 8404 size 3 brush. These brushes yield the best results for this advanced painting technique.

Class admission is $110/person. Tickets are now on sale. Please let me know if you have any issues purchasing a ticket.

Please feel free to ask any questions!

This is the link to my FB Event Page with the link to purchase tickets.

Adelaide and Sydney

Lots is still being determined
When: TBD--either before or after CanCon
Class size:20-35 people
Length: 2 Days, 16 hours

We will cover EVERYTHING! Whatever you have questions on and I have equipment to demonstrate with I will show attendees whatever they want!

I plan on covering the following:

Mini prep--cleaning, gluing tricks, priming
Basecoating--paint consistency and undercoats
2 brush blending
Glazing
Freehand
Faces, skin and hair
Color theory
True Metallics vs NMM vs Sky-Earth NMM
Display base discussion
How to store minis
Competition vs tabletop vs display
Palettes: Well vs Wet

For all of the classes if you want to learn 2 brush blending you need a Winsor & Newton Series 7 Standard Size 2 and a Raphael 8404 size 3 (or equivalents. I know these are hard to find). If a lot of people want to buy them but can't find them I can take orders and bring sets for students with me.

For the 2 day classes admission would run $200/person.

Sound good?

Would people be interested?

If we can rustle up 20 people for a Melbourne class let me know. I am willing to spend a month in Oz traveling around to teach classes. I figure I'm already doing the hard part which is the 24 hour flight from the US to Oz! After that, I can handle flying around Oz seeing different areas and meeting all of the communities out there. CanCon is the only class currently set in stone with the Sydney trip due to be fleshed out shortly.

Definitely keen for a class in Brisbane, but will likely also do the Monday one in Canberra if need be and there are spots left when I can pay.

Meg, will you be able to convince Charless Foster III to come? I owe that guy a beer for getting to use his sweet Harby list still.
