Decided to start a diary for all my random stuff instead of having it in lots of separate topics in the M,P,&T page (which not many seem to actually look at anyway). I'll keep posting my Orks in the 2nd edition forum, but this thread will have most of my other stuff.

I painted some more 40K jungle ruins to add to the earlier ones here. Bigger pictures are on my blog.

I hope you like them smile.gif

Thanks, mate!

I know they are pretty light, but I am trying to capture a bit of the old school vibe, as you say.

I'm digging the lighter colour scheme, very nice!

Thanks smile.gif The moss is sand and cheap green paint mixed together with PVA glue and then blobbed on in appropriate places. Once dried I dry-brush it with yellow paint.

All of these are painted with very cheap craft paints from the local hardware store. No expensive paints used on terrain smile.gif

Thanks mate, I always think lighter looks better, in general. Goes for models, bases, and terrain smile.gif

That Escher ganger is top notch! armata_PDT_37.gif

As for the terrain, I do like the bright colours, but to me the vibrant green on the moss and palm trees looks a little out of place against the more subdued brown-yellow grass. Maybe it would be worth experimenting with a brown wash or something to link it to the rest of the vegetation?

Then again, maybe it's deadly building-eating offworld moss that should've been stopped at Customs armata_PDT_07.gif

You are perfectly right about the grass. I'm not sure about the grass, I must admit.... I searched long and hard for the most greeny-yellow version I could find, and this one, which is a bit more browny-yellow than I would have liked, was the best I could find.

I am thinking about mixing in some straight green grass and a few tufts of different colours to break it up a bit. Perhaps something more like this...? (If only I could have found some flock more like these colours... :|):

IPB Image

But if anything changes it will be the grass and not the moss, because I am well happy with the rest of it! smile.gif

Of course, there is no grass in jungles... but this is old school 40k where, as you can see in the photos with the Escher, even the Underhive looks like it could well be located on a golf course....

Stunning. The hair, hair bands and skin tone A+!
What method do you use for the skin? Now-a-days everyone washes things but it'd be too dark for that effect.

Thanks mate! This is the method I used for the skin

QUOTE

Skin – GW Dwarf Flesh then GW Elf Flesh then keep adding white into the Elf Flesh for highlights in successive layers finishing up with pure white. I also used some flesh glazes (GW Orgryn Flesh) to blend the highlights, re-doing the final white highlights after that. I also used a yellow glaze around the edges of her face to add some colour but also to make her look a bit jaundiced, as if she spends a lot of time out of the sun inside spaceships… I was only mildly successful with that…

I reckon I did about 6 layers of highlights overall and it was only a VERY thin glaze of Ogryn Flesh. The skin was pretty white by the end, but that is what I was going for smile.gif

I spent ages on the face getting it right (to the detriment of some other parts of the model....) so I'm glad you like it! smile.gif

Thanks, fmi1979! smile.gif Have you got a log yet for your current project now the WotR one is finished?

The method for the bases was as follows :

QUOTE

1. Paint Goblin Green

2. Dry-brush with any yellow (I used GW Golden Yellow)

3. Randomly splash Windsor & Newton Sunshine Yellow ink around the middle of the base.

4. Splash W&N Burnt Sienna Ink around the edge of the base.

5. Once dry, dry-brush bleached bone all over.

6. Dry-brush white lightly concentrating on the edges.

7. Randomly splash the base with W&N yellow ink.

I sort of followed the method here.

I don't really try to make them uniform too much. On this one I accidentally spilled a big puddle of black ink but it seemed to work ok in the end so I just left it.... smile.gif

EDIT: Sorry, the rim of the base is painted with GW Knarloc Green.

Yeah, I think the moss and the grass both look fine by themselves. It's just the combo of the two that seems a bit odd. I reckon if you just sprinkle some tufts of bright green grass around the place, as you suggest, it would tie it all together nicely.

The Escher ganger looks fantastic - is there a whole gang painted to match?

Your terrain just needs some spiky cacti to properly fit the 2nd/3rd edition retro look smile.gif Those plastic ruins are such an iconic bit of terrain.

Thanks, morsla! smile.gif

Yes there will be Eschers added to this lass. It is the 20 year anniversary of Necromunda after all smile.gif I like the more subdued scheme as it will allow them to fit into a Sisters of Battle Army, or an Inquisition army as militia or Imperial Guard, as well as being used in Necromunda. Plus it just looks good too, in my opinion, though I will be adding some weapons painted red and some dashes of bright colour to the rest of them.... I just can't help it!!! smile.gif

Spiky cacti are also definitely on the agenda in the near future.... It's not old school 40k without them smile.gif

Thanks for your comments.

I bought some new tufts and things so I'll test them out on the next set of terrain I do.
