Highpoint GW recently had a comp advertised called "Box of sprue, what can you do" that I had hoped to participate in, but due to circumstances, I could not attend. This inspired me to try and make something using the mountain of sprue I have lying around the house. Wanting a dreadnought for a small Khorne army I am planning on building and not having any money to spend, I decided this would be the perfect project to try and use the sprue for. I grabbed some of the sprue, my vehicle bits box, glue and tools and off I set.
Here are a couple of photos so far. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So, what do you think of the idea? It is definitely a good start mate. I would be interested in seeing where you go with this.
What are you planning to put on the top section (above the head)? it will need something to keep it from being too bland/boxy. I think this could turn out quite well. Will definitely be watching this thread closely. -------------------- 3rd place Generalship and 6th overall - TerraCon 9

Thanks Voladilk. I will be adding detail to the top after I have the basic shape completed. I don't want to do too much to it until then because of the tendency I have to change whole sections.
An updated pic of what I have been doing. Sorry about it being a little out of focus. ![]() -------------------- Some people are like slinkies: Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs. :D

Excellent use of those bits! I have a fair few of them sitting in my bits box and no idea what to do with them! It is starting to shape up and it "feels" nice. Keep up the good work mate.

Thanks again. After doing a bit more work, I have decided that I am not happy with it.
![]() ![]() ![]() I think I need to extend the body back a bit. That means pulling the exhausts off, but that shouldn't be a problem. -------------------- Some people are like slinkies: Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs. :D

Oooo that's coming along nicely though!
I can't wait till you get into the arms and legs, I want to make custom limbs too, but haven't got a clue where to start (I have all the different pipings ready, but... just so damn many parts all over the place!) sj |

Hmm, yeah I see what you mean about the body. It does seem like it needs a bit more depth with the extra bits you put on. Yeah, feels like it just ends a bit too soon, not enough room for the sarcophagus (eek spelling??!!).

Very nice use of sprue for the chest!
![]() Might I suggest trophy poles with hanging chains perhaps for the top of the Dread? ![]() Good work! Keep it up! ![]() -------------------- +++ NEED BITS? PM me +++

Thanks for the encouragement, it really helps with the motivation to get this done.
@soju: I am looking forward to starting on the arms too, but scratch building the legs is the part I am nervous about trying to do. I have a few different ideas in mind, but nothing I am really happy with. I am going to leave them until last as I think they will be the hardest part to get looking right. @Seer Master Sinigal: I like the idea and will keep it in mind, thanks. And now for some picsof the extended body. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() -------------------- Some people are like slinkies: Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs. :D

Looks very cool mate! The extended body definitely makes it look sturdier and more umm dreadnaughty.... I am sure the legs are going to look fine when you settle on a design! Can't wait to see it finished! -------------------- |

Thanks guys.
I was asked for a size comparisson over on the B&C so I thought I would post it here too. ![]() ![]() It is looking quite big at the moment. ![]() -------------------- Some people are like slinkies: Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs. :D

Thanks Dean. Yeah, the whole dread is going to be built out of sprue, old bases and whatever I can find in my bits boxes and of course, I will use greenstuff to do the final detailing and gap filling.

![]() ![]() ![]() The "black stuff" is actually cut up WFB bases. I have a whole lot that are damaged and thought I would put them to good use. -------------------- Some people are like slinkies: Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs. :D

I actually think the size works, i mean khorne isn't into small flimsy things!
A bigger more solid dread fits the bill nicely i think! Some large piston style legs similar to a ork killa kan may look good for the legs, using different sized tubes or straws for construction.... -------------------- |
