I am trying to get a Monsterpocalypse tournament running at Arcanacon on Saturday the 24th of January.
Monsterpocalypse brings the kaiju (loosely translated from Japanese as ‘giant monster’) genre – a pop culture favorite – to the tabletop in the form of a fast-paced, action-packed CMG. This will be Melbourne's first Monsterpocalypse tournament, so please turn up to support this new system. The format will be "Constructed", whereby players can bring one list consisting of any monster and a corresponding hyper form (megas and shadows are legal if you have them), up to 15 units, 2-12 buildings and a map or two. There are no restrictions on your force apart from the standard ones. Privateer Press have kindly supplied us with 3 Mega forms of monsters to use as prizes so 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed players will each walk away with one of these limited edition figures. In addition, the first 12 players registered for this tournament will each receive a free limited edition shadow hunter miniature. The planned timetable is for 5 games with 60 + 2d6 minutes each: 9am: Check in with me 9:30am: Game 1 10:50am: Game 2 12:00 noon: Lunch 12:30pm: Game 3 1:50pm: Game 4 3:10pm: Game 5 4:45pm: Winners announced. Thus I hope to be done by 5pm, but expect that during the day delays will add up and it will be more like 5.30-6pm when we are done. This post has been edited by Dr Corey: Dec 14 2008, 03:28 PM |

I can't see why I couldn't make it, and probably either bring someone else, or at least have models to lend someone who wants to come along and give it a go.

There will be quite a few spare armies for anyone who wants to give it a go, with most people in Melbourne running 2 or 3 factions.

Shadow figures ftw!
I'll be there. -------------------- At some point I think people need to just accept that bad match ups and mission incompatabilities are possible. |

I have registered it at Arc and asked PP how you get to register an event there if it is not associated with a gaming store, so I have done all I can for now.
Hopefully we get some shadows and megas for our trouble. |

Mil Sims have agreed to sponsor this tournament, so we will have a prize of some sort even if PP doesn't put the event up (still waiting to hear back from them, but I assume it is because the tournament is being held in the next wave of tournaments and they haven't announced that prize pack yet).

Rego is now open for Arc (here), but the event is not up on the PP events list yet.

I've been in contact with PP again, and it looks like we will certainly get a mega of some form without the hassle of singing up on the privateer events website. More details when they are known.

Hopefully, it'll be something exclusive to large events rather than just what you get in local organised play tourneys.

Excellent, I've already signed up through AON, do we still need to register with PP or will we be swinging some shifty ?

From my emails I am fairly certain it won't appear on the privateer events site and I will just be sent a tournament pack based on my expected 8-12 participants.
Thus you don't need to do anything but show up on the day. However, if I have more participants than participation prizes I will give them in preference to those who have pre-registered on AON. This post has been edited by Dr Corey: Dec 13 2008, 02:38 AM |

Also, getting people to sign up in AON helps the convention know how many players to expect - they'll be working out which games go where before the con.
I'm currently trying to get MonPoc and all the Iron Kingdoms events in the same area we had last year - there should be plenty of space, plus couches etc. -------------------- My Admin voice is red.

I'd love it if we could somehow have MonPoc side by side with WM so that the WM players could get a glimpse of the new game during their breaks.

The prize pack we are getting from PP is:
Mega Armodax Mega Zor-Raiden Mega Terra Khan Additionally it will have 12 shadow hunters. I don't think I will take up the offer of the other prize support from the stores I have been talking to as it just make things murky as to what prizes people will get (does 1st place get a mega and a voucher or does 4th get a voucher, etc), and we may end up with more prizes than participants. I think you guys just want the mega forms anyway and wouldn't care that much about a games store voucher. EDIT: I wouldn't expect such great PP support in the future. That is the result of me begging and pleading that we hadn't seen any mega forms in Melbourne yet. DOUBLE EDIT: First place will get their choice of the 3 megas, second will pick next and the third placed will get whichever of the 3 is left. You could always use the sponsor prizes and the real prizes and do a participant draw for the megas or some other whacky prizes (longest throw, most damage in a single hit) ... crazy stuff that works better in an intimate setting.
And that is a sweet prize pack. This post has been edited by tenabrae: Dec 12 2008, 07:43 AM -------------------- |[TENABRAE]|40k|[Hive Fleet Dryad]|[Feral Angels]|infinity|[Yu Jing]|alkemy|[Aurlock Nation]

It all depends on how many people we get to come. We should get at least 6-7 given the current group, and if we meet the rumoured other Good Games crew there may be another 5 or 6 there, so it may end up as just one each. If not I will hand them out as freebies at other tournaments or demos to help get people interested.
Mike I just don't see the need for more prizes, given the numbers I am expecting (basically 5-10 people). If you wanted to buy a mega form from the US you would be looking at AU$80-150, which is pretty good for a 1st -3rd place prize. Plus the shadow hunters look like being US$5-20 on ebay (although some desperate person paid $76 for one), which means that just by turning up and paying the $24 you are definitely getting your moneys worth. Also they didn't mention if they were giving anything to me as a bonus for organizing the tourney, which is often duplicate megas. If they give me a copy of all 3 megas I will gladly throw one or two in as special prizes (door prize or fastest monster kill) depending on numbers. I guess I will find out when the package arrives.
