Playa's

Here is my 1750pt IG army that I've been painting for the past 6 months.

Hope you enjoy

IPB Image
Mortars... All of the minis I stuck down to wooden bases for under coating and painting. I used double sided tape

IPB Image

IPB Image
All of the minis in my army feature FW heads and back packs. I wanted to be a light infantry force. Hence the back packs and the respirator head from FW were for two reasons. 1. I'm really lazy and didnt want to paint that many faces, and 2, I really like the respirator heads

IPB Image
These bases are from a guy in Adelaide called Back 2 base-ix. Was really happy with these bases. They really add a lot to the overall appearance and theme of the army.

when I was deciding what base colour to paint the bases

IPB Image
I wanted the army to look like its in the middle of a tour of Oruzgan province in Afghanistan. This is the base colour test model

IPB Image
next was the camo added. I wanted something quick and effective (I had over 160 minis to paint)

IPB Image
Then the wash was added

Well.....i understand that there are a lot of models to do. And congrats on getting them up and running.

You have the potential to go back and pick up on all the details that is left. The imperial eagles, eye pieces etc etc.

Another thing to look out for is the heavey bolter muzzle. Try a bigger drill bit. And mould lines..............oh the mould lines......

I like it BUT the trouble is that they just seem to blend in with the bases and the "green" swatches are a fair bit smaller. You need something to break up the model, I think as you have gone and done a fair bit of hard work to get them to this stage. maybe its just the camera that is making them seem a lighter color than they are.

2 Things.

First being Details. Do all those eagles and eyes and lighten up the skin. Would instantly break up the minis.

Especially on those cool FW commanders.

Second is that a master of ordnance has a pistol and CCW weapon, not a lasgun.

Yes, when trying for a realistic look you really want the soldier's head and heart to have a bright target. tongue.gif

I think that the visors need some work (maybe with red antiflash effects), and then Heavy Bolter barrels need to be drilled out more, but otherwise they're loking pretty good.

I like them & wouldn't go adding more contrast. Maybe the eagle on the chest could do with some color but they are fine without it. They definately have a realistic look to them. I'd be inclined to add some weathering powders to the feet to blend them in a little bit more.

So Playa's

here is the last two elements of support company and the final element of my rifle company that I am currently painting. Although I don't actually have these elems in my 1750pt army list, I am adding them more for the sake of completeness and also, so when the need arises, I can call upon them to incorporate into my army.

So the last 3 elems are Sniper Platoon (Support Company), Assault Pioneer Platoon (Support Company) & finally Maneuver Support Section (Rifle Company)

Here they are, I have ordered the back 2 base-is bases, and the FW heads and packs for them so they are consistent with the rest of the army...

So here are the pics so far

IPB Image
Sniper Platoon.

I am considering making cloaks for the non sniper rifle army soldiers. But, I'm pretty lazy... anyone know of a good tutorial on how to do this, just in case i get motivated, or you think I should just skip it all together

IPB Image
Close up

IPB Image
Assault Pioneer Platoon - each Section has 2 x demo charges and 1 x flamer

IPB Image

IPB Image
These demo charges are from the FW cadian upgrade sprue

IPB Image
Maneuver Support Section for the Rifle Company

Ok, question for the group. My next acquisition for this army is to either get Chimera's for the Rifle Company and make the rifle company mechanised. The only problem I have with this, is that there is no way to mechanise support company (the IG list has no ability to give transports to the heavy weapon and special weapon squads)

So my next option was buy a Leman Russ company. Or a Arty company. depending on which way I go, I was going to get 3 X 3 Leman Russ variants (any suggestions on the composition?) or 3 X 3 Arty minis (maybe 1 X 3 Basilisk and 2 X 3 medusas) again suggestion?

So to summarise

1. Mech the Rifle Company
2. Get a Russ Company
3. Get an Arty Company

Fanx

So, the bases from Back-2-base-ix arrived today

I really like the bases this guy produces. Good quality, good service & good value for money.

Mr Back-2-Base-ix if your reading this, can you please mail your fantastic bases in a box, rather than a padded bag. You go to so much trouble with your website, marketing, production sales & service, only to be let down by very sub par postage packaging. (the bases really are fantastic)

Anyways, thats the end of that.

So, I'll get these bad boys washed & cleaned up tonight and stuck down to a plinth for painting in the coming weeks. Now I'm just waiting for the FW gear to arrive, then its on

Your camo looks great, what'd you wash it down with?

That flattened mask on the second soldier looks fantastic.

With Chimeras, the unit that buys the transport doesn't have to ride in it, so if you're gonna take some footsloggers they can buy the transport and let your heavy support ride in them.
